There’s a heated discussion on the local nextdoor about cyclist. So walkers don’t think cyclist should be allowed on the Capital trail. Some dog walkers think it’s not appropriate for a bike to pass them on the trail.

i can't remember the number of times I have taken the train through it. I went to law school at Pitt and used to ride Amtrak to and from Philly for most breaks. Just did it again last year to start a tour home from Pittsburgh. Amtrak recently introduced trainside checked bike service on the route. No need to box or disassemble the bike. A member of the crew hangs it in the baggage car for you.

Mrs datlas and I took a 4 mile hike on our local MUP yesterday. It was interesting to see the variety of walkers, runners, and cyclists. I saw stupidity on all sides. I really liked the dog walkers who were walking on the far right of the trail with dog on leash walking on the far left of the trail. A cyclist came by and had to nearly stop as a result. I think each one thought the other was a total French Shower. And they were probably both right.
I agree, negligence can be found in all parties. I have crashed due to pedestrians twice on the capital trail. I have never crashed due to a cyclist on the capital trail but I have come close.
I can’t stand the people with head phones so loud they can’t hear me. I make three announcements and I let my wheel coast which is really loud. Most of the time I get a wave so I know they heard me. Sometimes I get nothing, so I slow way down to pass. I have gotten cussed out before after I announced multiple times and slowed down because they couldn’t hear me.
Most riders don’t slow down, but after having a lady walk right enfront of me I don’t take chances.
