After a good long eight and a half hours of sleep, I've weed et for an hour, swung the machete for an hour, and, barring rain, will eat weeds again. Not without good long breaks brakes in between. And food in between also. Since my time in Belize, I am loathe to find a more pleasant task than swinging a machete. I have read that swinging a scythe was similarly pleasant.

I mean, my potbellied 68-ish-YO FIL also uses a machete.
Of course I was also just hearing him on a work call talking about a nuclear reactor, gigawatts, frequency, and oscillation, so he's quite a bit more dangerous than everyone Danny Trejo has ever played put together.

We had a good ride. 5 of us ended up with around 50 miles and I don't know the gain, I forgot to ask. We started with miles of bike path.
Near the beginning of the climb of the first canyon.
A little further up.
At the turn off I took a picture of a rock I liked.

This little road connects 2 canyons. We saw no cars on it and very few cars on the canyon roads.

Back on a main road we faced a few of these little bumps on our way back to the flatland.
The big reservoir is very low, the lowest I've ever seen it.
The steep descent is just ahead. The road surface is pretty bad and you can hit 50 mph if you let it go. I do not.

Great dirt ride on Sunday with my oldest friend. We were good friends in elementary school, and our paths crossed again in the early '90s, while riding MTBs. We rode and raced together (MTB and road) for many years. Family life has taken us in different directions, and we don't see each other very often these days, but I'm always grateful for the opportunity to spend some time together, ride bikes, and catch up on what's happening in each other's lives. Sunday AM, I took the drive to his 'hood for an excellent ride up Sullivan Ridge to Dirt Mullholland, a loop on the Bent Arrow singletrack, and a descent down Sullivan Canyon.

Big John's pictures remind me how scenic it is here. It doesn't get any better than this from Sunday morning (91F at 9:00 am).

Wow. My friend that I rode with on Sunday has a boat at Castaic, and has mentioned that it's low. I didn't realize how low.

It’s already 76 with a dew point of 73. Going up to 92. Ugh.

Slow morning. Everyone must be meeting up with other Addicts and having mid-ride coffee breaks.

We hit 99º yesterday. I couldn't ride because I had a bimonthly cancer appointment but my wife rode with our regular group. She cut it short after feeling sickly from the heat and humidity.

Bah Humbug I’ve been listening to a podcast I think you might be into- it’s a history of the English language, starting with PIE all of the way through modern English. I find it fascinating

I don't ride when it's like this unless it's for short mileage transportation. I sweat way too much and get dehydrated easily.
