Howdy,
Not vintage in my book, but certainly a modern classic... This afternoon I took a 28-mile shakedown ride on the new to me 2004 Colnago C40 HP B-Stay, which some previous owner had upgraded with full Super Record 11 (first design c. 2009). I changed up the cockpit to fit better and added the Campagnolo Neutron wheelset in place of the rather harsh Mavic Ksyrium SLs that it came equipped with. It rides incredibly smoothly but isn't quite as responsive as my newer 2013 Look 675 - I'm trading a little bit of speed for a little bit of comfort with this frame and wheel combination. The purchase was a gamble for me having never ridden a lugged carbon from this era, but I think it'll work for me for a couple of seasons at least!
Happy riding, all!

Today's ride: fun. I led my weekly club ride with a bonus quantity of old friends, new riders, and others just coming off injury or illness, and we had a great cruise out to south Scottsdale, making good-natured snarky comments about the variety of architecture in the Arcadia neighborhood and testing out newly-restriped streets. At breakfast at the fancy Chez Burger Roi (we had Whopper coupons!) one of the riders pondered the sad fact we had not ridden the "Chicken Route" in several months. The story is decades ago, there was a chicken-raising operation that went kaput, and the feathery flocks escaped and thrived as the subdivisions and duplexes replaced the cactus and farms. And so we rode west on Earll east of 32nd Street, keeping an eye out for the sharp claws and beaks of those little cluckers.
Too late. We were surrounded. I halted the group as a flock encircled us, their beady eyes gleaming in triumph. And then... the philosophical question played out in real life. The chicken crossed the road, and strutted up to us. So we asked. "Why? Whyyy?"
'I decline to answer that question on advice of counsel.'
So still no answer. But a fun ride nonetheless.
P.S.: For lunch, I had... chicken. For dinner - chicken. Revenge is yummy.

Nice early spring weather today, and a few tweaks (added a pump, relocated the rear fender stays) gave me an excuse to take the Union out again late in the afternoon.

Warmer than it should be and cloudy, I turned out a bit over 33 miles on the PX-10.
So far the killer cow hasn’t messed with me.
On two occasions I had cool avian encounters. First was a swarm of red-winged blackbirds exploring the action in corn fields separated by a local road.
Later I came upon thousands and thousands of grackles communing. It was unbelievably loud and beautifully so.
Maple sap is running in the northeast. Most operations use tubing nowadays. Haven’t seen buckets on spikes in some time.
All in all, it was great to get on the road.

Ascherer, in New York, there's only a thin, short strip next to the Connecticut border, of which you are part, that is the Red-Wing Blackbird's year-round residency. That, and an area out by Syracuse. That's a beautiful bike. Good ride.

Still finetuning the Union. Added a bell and changed the freewheel, as the previous one produced unwanted sounds. Dreary weather today.
Stopped at my favorite LBS. Buying a couple of inner tubes was really just an excuse to see if they would like my bike. They would.

Thank you. Red-Wings are plentiful in summer, I don't recall seeing them in winter. Where I have my house in Woodstock I mostly see Titmice, Chickadees, Yellow Finches, a few Cardinals and Bluebirds over winter. On Saturday while it was raining I had this fella in the back:

Pretty sure it’s a Barred Owl. Yes taken from inside on my phone zoomed way the heck past it actual range. Third one we’ve seen, and we hear them at night in summer. Yes to Juncoes and Red-bellied Woodpeckers in winter. Forgot about those. Heard a Carolina Wren this weekend.

Five hours on third ride back after six weeks off. Escaped from the Valley over Moonshine Road, 2km at 10.5%. Paid for it later and stopped under a bridge for a rest.

If you look close at the horizon of the seascape one can see obrentharris 's stomping grounds, Point Reyes.

Always thankful to post this thread
Great photos folks. I can tell everyone is beginning to arise from Winter's doldrums.
First dry day that coincided with my opportunity to ride. Low 50*s, no wind
Only a 20 year old build, but EL-OS (mostly) seems classic and the rider is definitely vintage.

Stormy one day. Sunny the next.
I rode into Petaluma where I used to occasionally have coffee with Bruce Gordon so this seemed like the right bike to bring.
Does the message on this sign translate to "Guard dog on duty"?
