Still riding the Moto Uno. We have moved down to the coast where a SS is perfect. Here in Jacksonville nc I have another job with a bike shop. Commute every day with errands too on this bike. Very solid and stable. Definitely my favorite go everywhere vehicle.

errand time

now at work.

Nimbus 33 tires and red syn leather tape are some of the changes as well as a Brooks keep the bike comfortable and classy. This is a great riding bike !

Still using this Moto Uno for moving around my little part of the world. Not the fancy bike in the stable or the fastest but great just the same.

makes a fine rain bike when errands or work calls me out. Keeps on rolling.

Mine is still my go-to commuter, in spite of the hills around here.

Somewhat not surprised to read that you are still tearing up the "Hill" ! That is serious upward at times. My ride is flat, flat and flat. Since selling the car, the Moto and a few others are my means of travel. Just had to replace the chain and rear freewheel cause of wear.

Impressed with the Carrboro Co. Looks like a well oiled operation. Wish we had one here. The cycling community is really divided between the race crowd and the homeless wanderers. Hardly anything in between.
Me.

Great bike these Motobecane Uno s.

Some update.

Since getting slammed by a van, I got the settlement and got the Moto uno back on the road. Missed it.
Frame did fine but the other parts needed replacing as it bounced on the asphalt.

Here as now, ride dialed in and bars finally wrapped

A lot of new stuff but same perfect frame.

Mavic wheels with Formula hubs
Phenom saddle
Cane Creek levers
HB tape
sakae anatomic HB
700x28 nimbus tires
Origin8 46T crank
new BB
Shimano R540 pedals
new cables and housing
new KMC chain

This is a working bike so did not go all out high end, just solid and dependable.

Funny, I got hit by a car too, in January. The only casualty was the stock front wheel. I rebuilt mine with flat bars for better urban cruising. I will get pics up later tonight.

Not so funny when I woke up in the Emergency Room. But I know what you mean Oct was my incounter

My wheel rims ( stock) were pancaked but the hubs are fine so will build up a back up Wheelset from them.

Glad to hear you both had minimal damage. After this my family ganged up on me and bought me a road ID band.

This was before the wreck, not much different looking

I picked up a used wheel from a friend and was back on the Uno in a week. In the meantime, I rode the Fantom CX.
I already had the RoadID, but started riding with my lights and reflective vest on all the time.

Nope, the CX is Aluminum with shaped tubes... the top tube might have a slight slope to it in my frame size. Both of mine are 54cm bikes, but the CX has a longer wheelbase and fork rake. The steer tube is somewhat shorter on the CX also.

So while the CX handles better under load (shopping, commuting, etc.), is more docile generally, and is a ton faster and easier to climb with, the Uno sits more upright and so is my preferred ride the majority of the time.

An Uno with a 5 or 8 speed IGH could easily be my only bike except for the Bakfiets.

About the only main component I have not replaced are the Avid shorty 4's. I have really like their results every time I squeeze the brake levers. Good pads count too but these Shorty's have impressed me with their ease of use and low weight.

Still, would like to know if anyone else thinks they have replaced these with something better.

The Uno is back to being my everyday work bike. I find myself being more aggressive on this machine with traffic or terrain I cross.

I have a set of mini-V's on my Uno, but I cannot remember the make offhand. I'll have to look down on my ride to work in the morning.

Performance of the Shorty 4's when adjusted properly is pretty decent. I still run old-style Shorty 4's on the rear of my CX race bike. If you like the modulation (feel) then keep them. I ran Tektro CR720s (with Koolstop pads) on the front when I had my Uno, but they didn't really stop any better, just had a different lever feel. All cantis are a trade-off between mechanical advantage and modulation. With less mechanical advantage (typical of wide profiles), you need more force at the lever, but you can better feel/modulate the amount of braking. With more mechanical advantage (typical of narrow profiles), you need less force at the lever but it's harder to be really precise on the brakes. The modulation matters more when riding off-road with reduced traction than it does on the road where you have to really work to lock the brakes.

Oh man, my Uno broke 12000mi last week, in 4.5 years split across 2 states.

Since my last post, I switched to a flat bar and installed regular V-brakes. I did do a 55mi day on it in May. I still have much love for this bike.
