Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Specialized's aero helmet offering -no visor. Sort half way between a traditional helmet and the Giro

I (sorta) got used to the leaky visor. A narrow strip of black electrical tape across the vents is nearly invisible during riding and it keeps the air out of the eyes, allowing me to see where I'm going at 40 mph. Ventilation got decent after I shaved my head. My remaining beef is with rear retention system, which could (if properly designed) assist ventilation by holding the helmet some distance from the head, but doesn't, because the clip connecting the helmet to the system provides minimal resistance and the helmet simply slides all the way down along the bracket with minimum pressure. I'm considering supergluing the clip in place.

Still thinking about returning, I have another month or so, but it has sweat damage to labels, and it's still out of stock in the place where I got it so I can't try a larger size.

It's a cool product but unbelievably poorly made for $240.

I draw the line at modifying my *head* to accomodate a helmet.

I actually shave my head regularly, but I got lazy recently and let the hair grow out.

Thanks for the feedback on this helmet. I like the idea of the visor and aero benefit but too bad it is hot to wear.
The LG Course helmet seems promising but no visor.

I gotta find a large in stock to try on... One thing I don't understand is the comments about its looks, ALL helmets are fugly in my opinion. Especially Catlike... I think both the AA and the new Specialized are worlds better than anything I have seen from Catlike.

I have a Catlike Whisper I picked up used.
It may look like a Suriname Toad, but it is fantastic in hot weather!

That thing looks like every other non-aero road helmet. And their PDF claims it's more aero than other "aero" road helmets above ~42km/h. They might have a winner if their claims turn out to be true.

Is it me, or did I notice the Sky team ditching the new aero helmet on the hotter stages of the TdF?

I wish Giro made an aero shell for the Atmos and Aeon like Lazer helmets.
