Oh that's what this is all about. The popular kids sulking cuz they weren't invited to play, and not given credit for inventing the wheel. Let me get this straight. You take exception to the open call for collaboration because i. only one person was mentioned explicitly, and ii. SW was not mentioned by name?
SW: do you indeed feel slighted, or is BM banging on one of those empty drums in his sig line?

Sure. That's your trite response every time I land a sharp riposte on you. And you appeal to the same tired platitude cuz you know you got nothing else. You avoided answering the question, so you conceded the issue.

This thread, Downtube folding bikes, being one of the longest established is part of the bed rock of this fine forum, perhaps then, the people currently working out their personal issues on it, and also other threads, should, if they have any real interest in folding bikes and this forum, take than into account before they post anymore cr@p.

I changed my original post, and I apologize for the problem. I am awed by many members here!!!
I would prefer to be positive, and I think this project gives an opportunity to help people get great bikes and help people ( or animals ) in need. If anyone is interested please email me at yan@downtube.com
Thanks,
Yan

hi, yan! not sure if you remember me, but a few months back I suggested that a fat bike folder might be worth exploring but you said it was not in the cards... just got back to this thread and am sad to see that I might have missed the boat on your fat bike. I already picked up a used fattie and did all my upgrades. loved the Ferrari folder on your website! don

Enjoying my Downtube with the Nexus 8 belt drive, but I was considering building up a new wheel set. I thought I might put in a coaster brake hub to eliminate the brake cable. I also thought about a two speed, self-shifting hub or kick back hub that would eliminate both cables and make the bike very easy to split in half should that ever be necessary. But then I started looking at the chainstays, or lack of chainstays. Does anyone run a coaster brake on that bike? It looks like it would not be straightforward. I'd have to make a clamp of some sort to attach the brake arm because there is no standard chainstay to put the standard, coaster brake clamp on.
Keeping my rear brakes as they are would not be the end of the world. There are some advantages to going that way as well. I just thought I'd ask about coaster brakes and figure out what my options are.

I moved to Hawaii in August and have not been very active. I just left my position in Kauai so I hope t be here more often.
FYI Kauai is a great place to visit, but I would not recommend moving there.
Thanks,
Yan

Not Kauai it's a mess. I taught math at the College, so I had one of the best jobs on island, and it was unbelievable. Please call me if you want specifics, I will not post here.
I am still open to living on Big Island ( Hilo ) with my family. Oahu is a big city, that's not my style. Maui is also a possibility.
Thanks,
Yan

I've been thinking about your question. I have lived in the Bahamas, Virgin Islands, Hawaii, Hatteras, and all along the east coast. Here is my opinion of these places for kids:
1. Bahamas is great for preschool age kids, especially if you live in Sanyport. However getting a work permit is difficult.
2. The Virgin Islands is beautiful, but a horrible place to raise kids.
3. Kauai, Hawaii is the most beautiful island I have ever seen, and a great tourist place. Working there is ridiculous, and the housing shortage is a serious problem. I think Big Island ( Hawai'i ) is much better.
4. Hatteras is awesome for kids and adults. The only problem is working, I ran the Downtube while I lived there for two+ years.
5. Greensboro, NC is a nice town for kids 4-6 yrs old. The hills are small, so they could stay with me.
6. Asheville, NC is great for bigger kids, since the hills are bigger. Plus there are so many outdoor options.
Once your son grows up, look at Warren Wilson College Warren Wilson College . There are not many schools like it, I hope my kids will be able to study there.
FYI my kids are 9, 8, and 0 ( 5 months ). I am looking to teach at an exotic place next year...maybe Indonesia.
Thanks,
Yan

Seven Years and Going Strong
My DTFS9 is now seven years old, maybe 6, still enjoying it together with my Brommie and Tikit.
Now, if I only knew how to upload a photo in this forum....

Today the market changed. Tomorrow morning will be bigger than today.
This is not a new product announcement or marketing gimmick. There has been a fundamental change that I will be excited to share with everyone tomorrow.
Thanks

half way commuter
Riding my 2009 DT mini yesterday, lucky to get a bus at Surabaya bus station with big baggage compartment, so bike only folded on steering post - long long traffic jam 10km before Malang and I decided to got off the bus - unfold the bike - bus only advancing few meters away - I moved on, waving to bus helper and driver, both of them grinning and giving big smiles.... and I ride slowly around stuck cars and impatient motor cycles. so this old DT mini, all stock except rear tire and rear rack, brought me peacefuly home, cheaper and just a fraction faster.....
