What saddles make your butt hurt?

Let's just be direct about it. For me, it's Turbos. I've tried them many times with the same result, like the insane man who continues to perform the same experiment over and over. Time to sell them on the Bay.

How about you?

I just rode my WV with Cinelli Unica Nitor saddle around the block a few times last night to get a feel for things. I wasn't wearing a liner. Even after such a short ride I found the upper part of the inside of my thighs was pretty tender. I'm not sure that saddle is going to work.

I used a Terry Firefly for a 200k once and won't be doing that again. I didn't get along with those embroidered flames. Someone else was using one on the same ride and loved it.

The Concor and Concor Lights are ok for a while, but ultimately don't work too well for me either.

Avocet Racing get me in the taint unless I run them a little low.
Turbos aren't my favorites either, but don't hurt butt
Haven't had a butt-hurty saddle in a long time

Early plastic Unica Nitor/Nitor saddle: pain squared. I may try it again when the memory of my first attempts begins to dim.

So far any with a full cutout or really deep pressure relief channel have been a no-go for me. I've tried Fizik and a few others I don't recall, Specialized maybe among them, and I know I had one Terry in there. And I was given a Fizik Pave Sport with a group I bought. Boy did that not work. But I do like some other Fiziks, so I'm not picking on them.

And gel saddles don't seem to do it for me, either, as least those made by Selle Italia. I've tried two different ones.

Lambert version of a brooks B17. killed me back in the day.
then tried Unica Nitor buffalo (suede) and it was a serious ass hatchet.
Brooks pro doesn't work for me, but a swallow or b17 does, strange huh?
Never liked concors, but do like regals.
Fizik Arione is a pita for me, Aliante works.
don't tell the C&V squad but I'm really liking a Prologo Nago TR.

One Winter I switched to an all plastic Unicanitor (not the recent reissue shape)
From a leather saddle as I did not want the hassle of caring for a light color saddle in rain.
It was great, later my club mates kept wanting me to switch to a padded saddle as they could not believe I found it comfortable.
The deal with saddles is everyone is different.
That said, even a saddle I find comfortable today, hurts for a week or two if I have been off the bike for over a month.

The Selle Italia SLR, Specialized Toupe, and some full CF saddles (usually based on the SLR shape) have worked for me. The Regal is probably the only vintage saddle that works for me. Some saddles that I haven't tried that could probably work for me are, the Fizik Aliante, Tune Speed needle, SMP, and The Fizik Antares. I would like to try those someday. WTB saddles seem to work pretty nice for me on the mountain bike. Right now, I am using a Speed V Comp on there.

anything with Gel or heavy padding kills me. The most padding I can handle is something like an Avocet Touring saddle. Actually I really like those Avocet Touring saddles.

After 20 years of B17 comfort, I was terrified of going skinny on my first non-touring roadster, but couldn't resist the allure of alloy rails. Bought a Selle Italia Initiale for $20 off ebay after reading good reviews and discovering that they're stock on far pricier bikes (go figure...). I was PLEASANTLY surprised to discover they're only a slightly less comfortable than the B17. I'm guessing it has to do with how the butt bones mesh with the "give" spots on the saddle and Selle Italia has mine figured out. I rode 5 miles on it on the first ride and it wasn't a PITA. The WTB and Bontrager saddles from my Fisher and Bianchi were just the opposite, support and contact in all the wrong places! It also helps to be able to move around and shift the pressure points. Some seats you can't always do that -- you're literally stuck. Now, if I could only find a Brooks Ti that cost less than my bike...

this doesn't hurt my butt

Been riding road bikes exclusively since the 70's, so my ass was quite well conditioned for it, or so I thought. I never really had a problem with the road saddles I had over the years until I got ahold of a Selle Italia 'Turbomatic 3' that came on my Tommasini. I mean it was supposed to be a high end saddle during that time. Hell, all the pros were riding on them. That saddle tore me all to hell on a long ride to my mothers house. I got saddle sores so bad it was like sitting on a lit cigarette. My bike shorts were soaked with blood and I was wracked with stinging pain the last half of the ride. It looked so pretty too, but was sheer evil throughout.

Got home and immediately ordered a Brooks 'Pro' from Branford Bike when they were still in Ct. That was in 2004. The 'Pro' was great right out of the green box. I couldnt believe the difference. I'm getting a little bit older now, but I wont ride nothing else if its going to be thirty miles or more.

Most saddles will hurt everyone's butt to some extent till you break yourself into/with it.
If humans were ever meant to sit on their butts for long periods on anything like a bicycle saddle, I'd think that we would have "sit pads" on our rear ends similar to what Mandrills and other primates have.........but maybe not in such bright colors!
Kinda surprised how many find the Turbo uncomfortable, If anything, For me, it's the most comfortable saddle I ever owned. Many Pros and amature racers back in the 80's seem to agree as they were on something like 90% of all bikes I saw in the racing circuit back then..........or maybe I'm just part Mandrill or something....

I had one of the early Specialized Body Geometry saddles. It didn't have a cut out, but a ridge in the padding. It was ugly, heavy, squishy, and uncomfortable after more than 10 mile. I got it mostly to mollify my mom and MIL who were concerned that all my riding was going to prevent them from ever becoming grandmothers.

As soon as my wife got pregnant, I ditched it and went back to my beloved Selle Italia Flite Ti.
