Actually, I think that color is called "Copper"...if you look at the 1979 catalog, that is the word they use...but I could be wrong as well, as Auchen has provided me with a lot of good info on my recently acquired Super Course!

I loaned my 1971 Super Course out to Alice, a French grad student who is in New York working an internship. This is jyl's adopted daughter, so to speak. She'll have the Super Course until she leaves New York this summer, or until it gets stolen, whichever comes first. jyl bought her a brand new lock, and she promises not to leave the bike outside at night.
I outfitted the bike with a milk crate on the back and an Avocet Racing I saddle. It already has on it: a loud bell, a bottle dynamo, front and rear (dyno-powered) lights, a (battery-powered) spoke light on the rear wheel, water bottle cage, upright bars with bar extenders, and SPD commuter pedals. (She does not have SPD shoes, so she'll use the non-SPD side.) I gave her an old helmet, too.
She tells me that at home, she has a Kawasaki 500 motorcycle, so she's already pretty bad-ass in my eyes. I told her to use the front brake primarily and that it's on the left side. She understood all the implications, being an experienced motorcyclist. I also showed her how to pump the tires and told her to pump them to 90 psi.
She rode off into the night in very cold and windy weather, wearing her mini-skirt. She's excited! I'm impressed.
In the background is another 1971 Super Course, which sailorbenjamin gave me and which I finished and upgraded and gave to my "adopted son," who visited at the same time Alice did.
Equipment on Alice's bike is:

That as-is picture is already pretty darned good. That 1979 model (or thereabouts) was one of the best values in bikes in that year. It got a huge upgrade in equipment, and the new racy geometry was a load of fun to ride.

My apologies, Pete; it may soften the blow a bit that I measure the frame at 23" CTC. That may be just a smidge too tall for ya. This score pales a bit when compared to what KonAaron Snake just snagged, but I'm very happy with the deal. The only really bad spot I see is that the chrome on the back of the fork is bubbling in spots. The rest of the bike is so nice that I think I'm going to pop for having the fork rechromed.

I found this little gem in August 2012.
Does anyone know what the date of manufacutre is? The serial number Z6519 is on the rear dropout. I have done some cleaning and I have also changed the derailleurs, cables and handlebar tape. Will post the latest pictures soon.

I think that headbadge was used like '68-'70. And you bike is labeled "Carlton", with a Raleigh headbadge. Interesting. I wonder what the first year was for the Super Course? Was it a Carlton model pre-Raleigh? Nice specimen in any case.

When I finally got the fourth and final one in the 85 Raleigh RacingUSA Series. The 85 Raleigh RacingUSA Super Course..(Chrome headtube, forks, chainstay and framestay.. The Super Course logo near the rear of the top tube. The Super Course is the only one of the 4 that Raleigh made in 84 and 85.. They are exactly alike, except one is blackberry like the Prestige, and the other one is blue. I got the blue. That will make me have the four different colors too..
Here it is in the rough. Shortly it will be going to the Master Blaster and when he puts his magic on it, there is no telling how high this bike will climb on my ladder of jewels..
