Don't you just hate it when you do an epic climb like that and your best photo shows a sign that says 0FT?!

Ha, ha. We were in too much oxygen debt to try and frame the picture behind us, but I wonder what was the problem of the friends who took the picture - they'd been at the top for a while.

Stoker JB and me just exiting a very rough dry loose gravel section (24km long - many fell off) at the Beverly Heroic 4 Oct 15. We did the 50 mile option in about 3 hours 30 mins. Very demanding day in the wind and on the dirt, plus hills on the way back. About 80 riders all up, lots on antique single-speeds and many on full aero carbon everything with deeeeep profile rims. A good day but hard. Hope to be back there next year.

JB has done amazingly well, not a serious cyclist who has ridden with me one day a weekend for about 4 months. He is tough and funny and fearless on the back, just what ya want in a tailgunner.

Thanks also to the two famblies who supported us in training and on the day and who listened patiently to our war stories.

Just ordered from Amazon a new Dyad 40H rim: the old Matrix original on the back of the T200 is riddled with cracks as the spokes pull through. The XT hub still has some life left in in it! Back on the road in 3 weeks I hope. Until then, halfbikes only.

Looks like fun but challenging. My sweetie would not be happy riding on that kind of stuff.

When I built up our tandem after scrounging as many of the original parts as I could find, the rear hub had been strung (incorrectly) with a Matrix rim. After a few thousand miles and a second broken spoke I noticed cracks forming in the rim too. So I restrung it with a Mavic A319.

This photo is from a tour along the paths of Bordeaux, France. Exceptional place to ride, and highly recommended for folks just getting into bike touring.

Impressive climb!

Glad to see another happy user of the Cirrus Bodyfloat. The Land Shark is a sweet frame!

Yeah I think you're right on the tube.

But beyond that the rest of it looks real clean- fenders, rims, handlebars etc - all the chromed parts look to be in very nice shape.

The bike was totally rebuilt before being hung up for over 10 years! The owners moved to a great house with an impossible driveway! That tube blew the tire off last winter! Dime size hole in tube at the valve.
This is a big bike! Ya gotta make a commitment with one of these!

I have found that most of these tandems ride better singularly!

It was also the first tandem that my wife and I ever owned. However, ours wasn't half as nice. We bought it at a garage sale. It was full of rust and corrosion, and it had flats front and rear.

After two new inner tubes and a few hours spit and polish, the bike looked a lot better. It was still as heavy as a truck, and it handled just as awful as JamieElenbaas described, but it was good enough for us to realize that we liked tandems.

My efforts to clean up the bike yielded some profit when we sold it within a couple of months. We used that money to buy a nicer bike. Now we're on tandem number four, and we love it!

That handlebar cag on our tandem is made by Minoura, a bit hard to find.
However, Performance Bicycles carries a different type and it comes with bottle cage attached for around 15 bucks.
Pedal on!
