Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

how's this?

1. frame made by Trek in early 08, called 6. given frame number
2. frame goes on rack for Project One.
3. frame sits there for a long time
4. frame ordered as a Project One in late 09
5. frame painted in 09, labeled as such
6. frame arrives in LBS, 2010, sold as such

my educated guesses, based on all the facts so far.

Trek's all-knowing serial-number database.

My own theory is that the shop ordered their required floor-model P1's, and weren't getting any nibbles on this one. darn it, we need a bigger market than just our walk-in traffic, or we'll be stuck with this 'til Doomsday. What about eBay? Well, I haven't checked, but I'm pretty sure the Trek dealer agreement would prohibit the store from selling it on eBay themselves. Enter the store owner/manager's wife or SO, who can bypass that because he/she isn't the store per se.

He/she lists it, goofs up the model year, gets asked after the fact, and does what I did: look it up at Trek's dealer site. Oh look, it must be an '08, the computers said so.

In the big picture, I would just build it and ride. That's a great price for a pristine frameset and I see no tangible benefits to killing the goose that laid the golden eggs here.

Once again, Grumpy ruins the argument by bringing logic into the equation! Bastard!

All this analysis and sleuthing is great entertainment, but it doesn't change the fact that the sticker on the frame says 2008. You don't need the Trek serial number database to tell you that--or whatever it tells you.

That said, it's the same damn frame as the 2010 model. The OP wanted a 2010 frame.

I'd say that's what she got.

For the record, I looked at all our US-made Madones that still have their stupid sticker on, and the date on the sticker can be off a year from the model year. For what that's worth.

As far as I can tell, coasting, it's all ladies involved in this dispute. So, no. Female fraud--possibly.

Enough about the bike; we need to know more about the people involved in order to have enough material for a short story. How often do they ride? Why eBay? Why now? Unbeknownst to each other, are the buyer and seller related?

Okay bostongarden, I'll sell you my story so I'll have enough to build up the bike 'cause it looks like it's mine now. This is obviously a fascinating topic - look at all the posts - so I see you becoming a VERY FAMOUS author. You can sign a copy of the book for pcad, daytrip and coasting AFTER they have stood in that long line waiting to get to you at Barnes and Noble.

I called my teammate who has the 2008 Madone series 6 mentioned in the hall of fame thread (the one that Trek sawzalled)

It does not have the Bontrager speed/cadence sensor.
