I strapped a couple of cans of road marking paint on the rack of my old rigid MTB and rode around town, stopping to mark the road for my club's upcoming April Fools Ride. Then I met several club members and led them on the marked route for our monthy BATTY Ride (Bikes Are Traffic Too, Y'all). About 6 miles altogether. If you think riding in heavy traffic is scary, try standing in the road painting markers while cars zoom by and people stare at you like some kind of terrorist.

10 miles on the MTB on the weekly club ride today. Speeds were pretty sedate due to having some new riders along for most of the way. No falls for me today.

Yesterday, about five hours after getting home from the colonoscopy (which I wouldn't mention except that this is the 50+ forum) I got out for a sedate 12 mile ride. (The actual sedation was earlier in the day.)
Today, just 4 miles to go buy some stamps and mail a letter. Utility riding, they call it.

Incredible warm weather here in S.E. Michigan -- 20-30 degrees above normal (same temps as Slo Spoke Jim had in FL!). Rode 10 miles on Tuesday just after picking up new bike from LBS (great timing!); 21 on Wednesday; 10 on Thursday on the trail bike with the wife; 22 today. The spinning class over the winter must have helped, as my legs are getting into shape quickly, although my butt still needs to break in a bit more.

Both Wednesday's and today's rides were out a long, straight rail-trail with a stiff tailwind on the out portion, meaning serious headwind on the way back. I don't think I've ever ridden that far in the drops, but it sure did help!

Rode to work today. Unseasonably warm. Tailwind this morning and headwind in the PM. Lots and lots of folks in downtown Indy today for the Final Four. 29,000 showed up to watch Butler practice.........the town is pretty worked up for the home team!

After spending six hours painting route markings on the roads, I still had time for a 37 mile ride with time to spare before dark. What a great day! We were comfortably in shorts and t-shirts at 9am and it was in the mid 80s when I rode this afternoon. It didn't feel hot because the humidity is low. The cherries and pears are just past their peek and the dogwoods, crepe myrtles and other blooming trees and plants are beginning to open up.

We have that same weather as Michigan, we headed out it was 12℃, near home it was close to 25℃ by the time we got back home, down by the lake it didn't get that warm (probably 18-19), warm enough though that people were in summer clothes. Winds were very light off the lake which this time of years is about 3℃



We started at Union Station, from the subway which is at the base of the tall skinny pointy thing, at the left side of the photo, called the CN Tower. We then rode to the trail along Lakeshore, along the Waterfront Trail, which passes under the windmill, and back to where we are, a distance of about 13km we then rode back to the Station. The photo was taken from our turn around point.

First real test of the wifes new saddle, no problems there, which is a good thing. The trail was freaking jammed though, only 3 real problems, joggers that absolutely have to be 4 abreast so that they block the whole lane on the trail, making passing difficult when it's busy. Even when there is a walking trail not 5m away, and there are signs as to which to use, they still need to block one lane of the bike portion of the trail. Of course there are also the ubiquitous meat pylons, people where there is 5 square kilometres of park, so the only possible place to stand is the middle of the bike portion of the trail. In-line skaters were also a pain in the rear, they make the 75 year old lady on the English 3 speed look fast by comparison, and have to be like the joggers, always 2 or 3 across, making passing difficult and dangerous.

This was the first real ride of the year,which is why we cheated and used the subway. Once we get later in the season we will ride from home.

1.5 hours of aerobic riding. Couldn't figure out why the mph was slower than normal until I got back home and off the bike. When pushing the bike into the garage I discovered the rear brake was rubbing. Oops!

NealH and I rode from town up the BRP to the top of Waterrock Knob today. 19 miles up, 19 miles down with 3950' of climbing. It was very warm with temps around 84º though cooler at the top. I suffered on this ride as it is a lot for me at this point of the season( since I was off the bike all winter). 3:07 ride time.

32.5 miles this morning. Unseasonably warm and windy. The MUP was busy with other cyclists, walkers, joggers and roller bladers. It was a great day for a ride despite the wind.

2 hours of aerobic, 30 minutes of anaerobic hill repeats. Why do I torture myself?

Oh yeah, I like dropping that pukey 16 year old in our LBS riding group with the Cervelo.

Did the Don Valley trail in Toronto Down from Lawrence and back, weather was perfect but the paths were very crowded. Need to get the seat time in we are doing the Ride to Conquer Cancer. 45 Km today, 33 yesterday and plan on 45 tomorrow. This route has a perfect end...... Nice steep uphill out of the valley and a good uphill slope all of the way home.

Got out yesterday for 36 miles. I ride down off a ridge (that's fun) but the last 5 miles are back up that ridge (not so much fun). Was just sort of cruising but still managed to do 15.2 mph. At age 64 and one of the first rides of the season I'm pretty happy with the result. Beautiful scenery and finally a great weather too.

I had a 36 mile ride starting at 6am today. I rode most of the Chicago Lakefront bike path and back. I had a head wind as I rode south and rain as I returned, but I'm still smiling. I hope to ride a 100+ plus miles per week until November.

NealH and I went for a nice 39 mile ride along the river valley this morning. We had about 1600' of climbing along the way and the ride time was 2:24. Riding conditions were about perfect though a pretty brisk wind came up about midway in the ride.

35 mph winds kept me from racing today. I just didn't feel right racing in high winds even though the race was on the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Went out and did a local hilly 32 mile loop and rode it as if I were racing. Agressive, 2,148' of climbing, windy, 19.77 mph ave. and ready for a few brews.

Did the pre-tour loop-de-loop (which means the primary course minus the starting line, 3 miles from home) and it was the usual "disaster"..."guys" don't need no map!
( I did a mapmyride to avoid the flood area, road repair, closest route to the actual route that is supposed to be repaired by next week) And of course, as usual, we wound up off-the-rez and into side streets because "da guys" always KNOW the way! Plus, the testosterone level was somewhere between "maniacal old fart" and "damn the cars I'm a diva"...and the little bathroom breaks in crowed parks where people were jogging, walking their dogs because...well, because, you know...Then, the whine of "we still have 10 moooore miles and this road is awful" to which I said the one wearing the Costco soxs (never wear your good soxs on piffly little ride) to quit whining and enjoy the scenery, proceeded by the "I hate you" look...ahhhh, the yearly joy of getting everyone together for one last group ride before the 72 mile grind. But, I'm happy, feel good; I have the gall to actually pay attention to a training regime...but then again, I'm not a "guy". I'll let you know how the actual tour goes...

Just my commute to work tonight, five miles. The weather has been fantastic and of course I've worked 9 of the last 10 days, 12.5 hour shifts (except for the 15 hr. shift on thu.)

The ride home should be pleasant. Early Sunday mornings are usually pretty quiet out on the roads and being Easter should help. Looking for upper 50* temps with partly cloudy skies. I should be able to catch sunrise at 06:47 over the lake on my way home. It'll be about 75 minutes into my extended ride and I'll be within a couple of miles from home.

80 miles, 6500 feet of climbing. Front Royal, up Fort Valley to Luray, and back on Skyline Drive. I finally feel like I'm getting a little bit of last summer's form back. I wasn't completely toasted when I finished, which wasn't the case for the past couple of weeks on much shorter, easier rides.
