On the other hand, maybe I should knock that off.

Candlelight vigil last night. A kid that graduated from the high school a couple of years ago organized it. Turned into a pretty big event (for us). A few songs, a few words, a few moments of silence. Somehow my grumpy son managed to restrain himself from complaining about having waste time standing around in the cold. Maybe he realized there are a few things bigger than playing video games. He was a bit nervous about something bad happening, but it all went well.

I'm amazed at the generosity of some people around the country. I went to the local coffee shop and everything was free because someone in Idaho had given them their credit card and said they would pay that day. Similar stories at the general store and ice cream shop.

Sorry for not clarifying, I meant the song. I never skated on a skateboard with metal wheels but I had a pair of roller skates with metal wheels. Friends could hear me coming before I turned the corner and if I had fillings riding on those things would have certainly shaken them out.

The club has a century every year just before Christmas (it's today). I always go, even though I don't like the route and the fast people put the hurt on me.
Today I might skip it depending on who's doing it and what the alternatives are. Must be old age, finding more ways to avoid stuff these days.

Me too, but they decided to ride tomorrow. I thought about doing my workout outside, but that wind is rough when it's 32 degrees out. To the trainer I go.

I am doing well, thank you. Commuting time is up. I dug myself a huge hole riding that bike all the time. It's all about rest and strength and adaptation work now. I was in the gym for half of this week, that's why Strava looks a bit empty. The rest of the time I'm on the Felt on the trainer. It's sad that I have a brand new frame and wheels and it's been ridden outside twice. Meanwhile, I have been enjoying the ritual of gluing up tubulars. Brings back great memories.

I hope things are well with you.

We have a New Years day ride that I will probably skip. Too many people, stop at Starbucks , crashing into pedestrians ....

To ride with the some of the team I'd have dealt with the wind, but there was snow in the area, and I was looking at 3-4 hours. I had a bad sense the ride could turn into a perfect storm of suck. I didn't cheat myself out of a workout. Now it's off the FLA. Be seeing you.

Sweet, I had not kept up on the frame, warranty replacement? What wheels did you end up with?

I think I am making progress on the bike, my job sorta sux, and the Houston countdown timer is running... so not much new really.

Felt would not warranty my frame. They said I broke it. I don't exactly know how as I have never crashed it. So they offered me an FC frame kit for half price, and I took it. The FC is the same frame as the F2 without the carbon BB30 shell. Big upgrade. I've only hit the gas on it once but it just took off.

For wheels I picked up a used set of Psimet 50mm clinchers, right here in the classifieds, for training. For racing I found a nice set of older pre-dimpled 404 tubulars.

Had I known that I would be in SoCal today, I would have said come on out.

Nice thing about getting old is you are less prone to letting yourself get roped into stuff that really isn't fun. Note I said less.

That is a little sucky of Felt. I will mention something at the shop incase anyone else has this issue in the future. FWIW a guy I was riding with whose aluminum dropout just snapped on his older Trek Madone (While riding down a smooth paved road) was initially told that he would not get a new frame for free. I walked into the shop the other day to see his new Trek Domane 6 series frame being built up, which he got for free.

Otherwise, right now I am enjoying my 2 week rest (Yay me!). Although I feel like I am totally cheating since I still have a 10 mile each way commute so I haven't really been without riding. Might go run today.

My frame replacement story is different but very similar in some ways. When i first brought it back to the shop, i was told that i would get a new frame. 2 weeks later (or was it 3... i forget) i'm told that i have to wait another 6 weeks to get a new frame, or i can pay 2000 and wait 6 weeks to get a noah fast. Finally after many long hours of talking to the shop, the ridley rep, and everyone in between, i got a "suddenly available" ridley noah demo bike minus r-flow. By then i was lik "**** it just give me the bike" (note this was still 3 weeks after the initial quote of 6 weeks). Apparently my shop called the head of ridley in the U.S. and pulled some strings.

Man Shovel, it sound like you were screwed. Half priced frame is nice and all, but when something breaks that isn't your fault, it deserves to be replaced under the warranty.

My bike had a crack on the headtube from the day i bought it, but it looked like a paint chip, so none of us thought anything of it until i brought it in one day 8 months later, and it had spread.

Screwed, no. It just didn't go my way. I move on to race the piss out of this beautiful new frame.

Wife is packing and I'm getting ready to make dinner. Youngest son arrived a few days ago and the oldest is on his way tonight. Bright and early tomorrow we all head to the Dominican Republic. It's our first ever true family vacation and the first vacation that my wife and I have taken that did not involve bikes.

It will be weird celebrating Christmas away from all the family. but after the last couple years it's nice to just get away and relax.

So here's wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays...

The afternoon's roller flick, could not hear the dialog all that well, but it is not that hard to follow. I liked it.

Got out on a ride in Houston today with a group of 20 for about 50 miles. All year I have been the nail, but today, I was the hammer. Rest week is over
