Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's not as bad as it would appear. There are fish and frogs in the pond, and frogs wandering through the house. We're fully screened. We attribute most of the lack of infestation to the fish. There are times when a floor, or powerful ceiling fan is a necessity.
There are also geckos everywhere. Don't know if they eat mosquitoes.
I do not, however, have a 25° driveway in snow country.

I, OTOH, have astigmatism AND increasing presbyopia, so neither holding things close nor far away is much help. Even so, I have always been able to pass the eye test for driving, so I'm not required to wear glasses.
Last time I had to do the eye test for my license, I did it without my glasses because I didn't like wearing them while driving. When I looked through the machine, I told the lady that it was broken as everything on the left was blurry, but everything on the right was crystal clear. She gave me a pass and told me to bring my glasses the next time I had to renew. Fortunately, the "next time" was in 2020 after the Covid shutdown, so I'm good until 2028.

My Grandfather was still umpiring Little League baseball with cataracts in both eyes. He said, "I call 'em from memory."

He was a professional baseball player in the 'Teens. Basketball, too, which is funny for a guy who was about 5'8". Then he umpired baseball at various levels for something like 57 years.

Why do frogs wander through the house?

IIRC, I only had to go the DMV for a written and eye test at age 63. I went during work hours and only had my work glasses with me, which are way too strong for driving. I had a hard time seeing the chart but they passed me anyway and now my license stipulates "corrective lenses required".

I was told that a few days ago, for the left eye only.

That I can't say. They just do. There are some that climb the walls, cram themselves into a corner and remain there for days and nights at a time. I had to paint around one of them.

My wife would move if there were critters roaming through our house. Thought I was going to have to sell the place when a 10" snake got into the kitchen a few years ago.

I hate wearing glasses. Might try those fancy pilocarpine drops that supposedly can work for near vision. If that does not work, I will have to bite the bullet and wear cheaters. I know monovision is a thing but I don't think my crazy brain would ever adapt well to it.

A cycling friend just bought a lovely house near a creek and a pond. He said there are TONS of frogs there, and within a couple days there was a 4 foot snake on their deck.

His family could not accept this and so the house is back on the market and he moved everyone back to the previous house. Sad.

I'm happy for you. I'm listening to pop music from 40 years ago and you're listening to pop music from 400 years ago. Somehow this matters to you.
