I went to work on it today using parts from the bins. It’s sobering to realize that even though I haven’t been mountain biking in in 16 years, I had enough stuff kicking around to almost complete it as a single speed beater. Alas, I lack the proper 4-bolt oddball middle chainring for the Shimano XTR FC-950 chainset. I’ll have to track one down - anybody holding a used spare for cheap? Apart from that and 4 single-ring chainring bolts I have everything else on hand.
I know - pix or it didn’t happen -
A cursory wipe down did wonders for the paint.
About 1/4 of the teeth were gone and the remainder were dodgy, so a few minutes work with channel lock pliers did for the rest. I’ll file the ring down into a smoother bash-ring:chainguard later.
Alivio cantis, Altus brake levers, bars, stem and bar ends from some long forgotten salvaged mtb.
The non-drive side of a bike currently without a drive …

1976 Super Course Mk II. It's a mess as you can see. The wheels are mismatched and one is pretty thin on the brake tracks, most of the aluminum is oxidized and THAT saddle! But the frame and fork are straight and dent free and these NEVER come up for sale around here in my size in any condition. Plus, it was cheap enough and close to home.

Perhaps not what you meant, but these insulation batts were in a nearby construction dumpster and I brought them home to help insulate the walls of my shop area. Literally saved from the dump...
...and exactly as much as I needed for the wall in that space. Nice to work in the A/C on such a hot day and get something useful done to benefit the bikes even if not specifically bike-related.

Chicago Schwinn Middleweight
Before and after of this bike rescued from the dump, and given to me a year ago, a 26-inch,1961 Schwinn Tornado Twin-Bar. I just finished the restoration and upgrade. New wheels on Velocity Atlas rims, new front axle, and a Sturmey Archer two-speed kick-back coaster brake hub. Powder coat, vinyl decals, clear coat, new chain, seat, and grips.

Neighborhood yard sale coughed up this little gem:
A late 80’s Trek 830. Tiny 16” frame is way too small for me or anyone I know, so I’ll clean & tune it and resell it locally. Hopefully. It’s a nice little bike but if I can’t sell it I’ll take the fork and donate the rest to the local collective…

My first post in a long time as I haven't been riding for the past couple of years until recently.
This is probably my best catch/save ever even if it was a few years ago (don't think I ever posted about it here before).
Was riding one day and passing by a garage sale spotted a dirty red bike leaning against the yard light. Got done with my loop and got sidetracked doing who knows what and fully expected the bike to be gone but went for a look anyway. They were shutting down the sale and I got it for either $5 or $10.
I put it in storage and hadn't touched it until today. It's in surprisingly good shape. Going to need new chainrings and freewheel due to wear (some teeth are razor sharp). Should have most everything I need in my boxes in storage. Going searching tomorrow.
Shogun Katana 1986ish I think.

Here in our City, the main dump is completely shut off from any gleaning. Bicycle-wise, the local civic government has an arrangement with their own bike co-op agency called "the Wrench'. They have a monopoly on access to any bikes dropped off at the dump. The bikes are saved for The Wrench, sorted and compiled, then taken back to main HQ where they are further worked on or parted down into storage. Many, many bikes are sold from there and some nice stuff shows up. All other bike coops in the City have to go hat in hand to them for their needs, unless of course private individuals donate directly to them.

I drove 1.5 hours away to buy the Thule T2 Pro rack for $100, couldn't pass it up, and on the way home there was Friday traffic on the highway. Google Maps kept rerouting me through back roads to avoid the highway mess. I found these 2 bikes on the side of the road with a free sign. Cannondale - no model name stickers, but it's all Shimano 105. And the Mid-school GT Mach One, which has seen better days but I can't complain.

Had a good day at our Co-op's garage sale. Not many people are into vintage lightweights, so I bought some of the crap that hadn't sold in last years sale. The satan crank would have probably gone into the aluminum recycling bin and the same for the NOS Mavic rims, which I'm sure someone here will be interested in.
I was excited for the large Maillard freewheel tool and like how someone made it into a flip-flop tool with the smaller tool bonded into the other side.
The parts were all in a bag of "old campy" and should go a long way in returning my '60 Fiorelli to period.

Magistroni crank? If so also a very nice score.

And I went back, as I couldn't get the DuraAce AX crank/pedals they had out of my mind. Also got a Campy dish gauge and Park headtube straightener (!?!) that no one else wanted...

I have to ask. How much were the NOS Mavic rims?
Looking at your post on my phone but it looks like GP4s.
Last cheap NOS GP4 sets I saw were $60-70 and now when I look for them I can't find any, anywhere.
I'd guess on low end you've grabbed easily $200 total for all.
