Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Excel is awesome - that's a great price. I also wish that Vittoria would hurry up and update their tubeless Corsa so that I could give 'em a whirl (the current ones are several years old and aren't recommended for my wheels).

I’d go with the Schwalbe too. Big fan.

Oh, I don’t know if something changed with the carcass, but the 32s I put on last night stay bead locked when deflated.

I can't fit 32s, but that's good to know. I've been tempted to pick up some more 28s with the prices at Bike24.

The rear tire was a huge pain to get seated, had to use a tube.

Just for the initial seating and you were able to set it up tubeless after? Or have you not been it up tubeless yet?

Just the initial and just the rear. Front went on easily. I may need more tape on the rear, it’s been giving me issues with every tire

I ran those for a very short time and sold them. They flatted pretty easy compared to the Michelin Power tires I preferred at the time, and they also lost grip quicker too.

Smooth is fast.

Your power wasn't out of this world, but you were probably really steady - not a lot of stop-and-go or surge and lull - as you should be.

I've taken quite a liking to the grand sport race by continental. Very similar chacteristics compared to the 5000/4000 . Very nice riding tire. The assometer says the rolling resistance is acceptable. Best part they are half the price of a 5k.

Unless you do a lot of high speed descending that a pretty solid use of gearing. Most of us could use some help climbing, descending takes care of itself.

Edit: I'm actually kind of torn on the gearing think. I've found myself gravitating back to 53/39 front. The blue Tarmac may end up 50/36 with a 34-11 justcso I have a dedicated climbing bike. But both of the other 2 will likely be 53/39 and either a 28-11 or 32-11. It just feels more comfortable to me for some reason.

I was focusing on staying aero. It’s amazing how less effort is required in that position.

I actually like the 52x11 on some descents where I'm not screaming down at high cadence. I can turn the pedals over slowly between turns, rather than spinning like an eggbeater, which just feels more stable. AND the 11-32 doesn't have the 11-13 gap that the 11-34 does. I went ahead and ordered the 53/39, since I realized what I wanted was the same kind of gearing it has now, but with enough lower that I could do any of the climbs I do on the Canyon.

That's why work is a four letter word.
