I have no problems shifting from the drops or the hoods with Shimano.

I think the climbing buttons (Dura Ace SW-R9150) might be handy for me though. Since I do a lot of climbing I'm on top of the bars a lot and just hitting a switch with my either thumb to shift could be handy. But I finally got everything cleaned up so I don't have anything mounted on the bars anymore so I'll probably never do it. Just thinking out loud (and coming up with an excuse to buy another bike part

With flat/wing bars, the tops aren't a comfortable place to put my hands anyway. I can shift easily from the hoods and drops. Never saw any appeal for the remote shift buttons.
