Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This morning on a Zoom workshop with a contractor in Germany, someone mentioned the difficulty in getting new bikes these days. I said "I think I have enough bikes."

Mrs. John had a friend over today. The three of us sat outside and chatted and she mentioned she would like to get a new bicycle and maybe one for her husband, too.
When the topic of cost came up she said she was thinking of spending around $200. These people have buttloads of money and I told her to raise the budget a bit.

I like how the crosswinds weren't enough to contend with so they threw in some rollers, too.

Dealing with crosswind was a big contributor to my aviation career stopping as short as it did.

Probably didn't help that I did everything in little bitty tailwheel airplanes. Nothing like getting beat up for a couple hours under the hood and then having to deal with a squirrelly 140A at the very end.

His response? "Oh, I KNOW who killed JFK."

My reply? See you in six months.

At least he did get a COVD19 vaccine.
Oh boy.

Are you going to get us Bro Pricing on the Power Mirror, or whatever the printed one is called?

If you studied the pic I posted of my bikes the other day, 5 out of 6 have Avocet O2 Air 40R's, a saddle that has not been made in probably 20 years. I had one on the Ritchey, and when I bought the Bianchi in 2007 and found my junk going numb after 20 miles on whatever Fizik it came with, I went to buy another, and discovered they'd been discontinued. I found them at an LBS that worked with Avocet, and bought 4 of their remaining. I had them on all my bikes, till I got the Circuit. So far, though, the Rolls that came with it seems to be working.

This is why I've let the white saddle on the Battaglin get so worn - it still fits, and when I'm on it you can't see the wear.
My road bikes all have Specialized Toupes.

Then there's the Selle Anatomica, which is like sitting in a hammock. I bet you would like that one, if you could keep it properly tightened. And the last leather saddle on the list is a Fujita Belt. That one would be best just tossed.
There is a Unicanitor in my spare parts bin. It was on the Schwinn for a while.

Sold a nice couple a set of his & hers Fuji Captivas today. Had a great time helping them choose accessories like fenders, racks, trunk bags. They chose insulated trunk bags to keep their growlers cool on their adventures.

Even with Bro Pricing, it's an expensive saddle. Also, there are none available.

I get it. Working out in the desert I had to learn to deal with heavy winds real quick, because the school I worked for didn’t stop for anything. Great experience but steep learning curve. Flew tail wheel up in Alaska, I don’t really remember any cross wind issues up there while flying that. My boss was super chill and never pushed me to fly if I didn’t want to. Really the only sketch thing was trying to land on pavement with bush tires.

With the Spoon and Scoop, what's the type of comfort deterioration after 2-3 hours?

I'm loathe to pay more than I have to, but saddles are one of those areas where it's worth it to get it right and get it behind you. I'd pop over to a Spec dealer and try out their Ass-o-Meter if only for a confirmation on normal/wide/narrow, but wouldn't rule out the buy & try of one of their recommendations.

Scheduling an 8 am conference call is just wrong. That’s right in the middle of my morning nap time.
