Starting out today with a shard of glass in the tire might be a sign to keep it simp & short... It did seal itself up after pluckin it out, but it take a few pump ups; The jam wasn't immediate. After the tire is retired, I'll consider dumping in Stans Race sealant.

Too far. I told my wife I’d be back by noon. Got home at 2:30. She’s off with the kids now doing what we would have done together.

On another note, for the first time since I was 14, I no longer have a 6 pack. I endo’d pretty badly at one point today, even ate a little dirt. I got a whole lotta handlebar in the gut, I can only speculate that the dad bod was protective.

Mileage was too piddling to mention but did a ride through farm country through the sprinkling rain - when I got home it opened up.

13 miles today, seeing what the knee could take after 31 miles yesterday. Still building up mileage after being off the bike for a while and a knee injury back in May.

Rode one-way to see the grandson today. Mrs RSbob gave me a lift home. Rode strong. Had enough left in me for the return trip but was getting late.

The mileage isn't that spectacular, but it's mostly a dirt loop with lots of climbing, so somewhat noteworthy. The big deal for me was setting a bunch of PR's for power...I haven't done a FTP test since when I was XC racing back in May and wasn't intending on doing one today...however climbing on 2x GRX gearing meant that going easy on the climbs was not an option.

I've got a gravel race lined up for next month...after today, I'm feeling pretty confident about it.

^ Unreal watts and climbing. You should feel secure in the power you are putting out.

Thanks. I feel weird bragging about riding stuff, but I had to after that ride...it was a surprise to me. Realistically though, I need to drop some weight if I'm to ever call myself a good climber.

Yeah I know what you mean, but accomplishments should be celebrated. Many here, myself included, ride solo and when we accomplish something significant, it’s nice to share and get a few pats on the back. If I rode with a group, then it would border on narcissism.

As you can tell, I’m on Strava, and getting a few token “Kudos” whether I do 1 mile or 100 seems rather meaningless. Most of my Strava buddies are gravel riders and runners. I am about 95% road, so there is a disconnect between us unless it is something monumental. So feel free to share your achievements here and get more than just a Kudo. The beauty of it here is that whether you are 35 or 68 (like me) we can all pat each other on the back when good things happen.

Yeah, I hear you on the "Kudos." I race XC, but the bulk of my time is spent riding road and some gravel. My roadie buddies see a 25 mile MTB ride and scoff at it. On the flip side, some of my MTB friends see my 50 mile road rides and think that's the craziest distance ever. The truth is, that the 2 rides are of equal difficulty. To my non-riding friends, it's all the same. Quite a bit of my activity isn't even posted on Strava, as I just don't feel the need to share it.

Most of my rides are solo rides as well, so outside of here or Strava, there isn't much back-patting involved. At the risk of going all philosophical, I've got 2 main internal motivators for riding/training. Part of it is fulfilling my desire to adventure, there are few things in life that are as rewarding as going and knocking an all-day ride out on the bike. The other driver for me is just building for future success. I do enjoy racing, so I trick myself into thinking that training rides are like taking a loan out on future success. It doesn't even have to be racing related, sometimes it's just a fitness goal.

Know those are worthy goals. Adventure, speed and accomplishment are good motivators. In my 30s I was constantly training for time and distance. Was doing centuries in 5 hours, double centuries in 10.5 hours and did a couple of 150 mile 10,000’ days rated as one of the 10 toughest rides in America. I would travel all over the west to ride new roads. Never raced since I didn’t have the genes or the time to dedicate. Now my goals are maintaining health, beating my PRs and getting the fastest segment times on Strava for my age group but am not a sprinter. Still might go for a 6 hour century this year, weather gods permitting.

Troul bangs out centuries weekly. I hope to inherit his legs when his time comes. No rush Troul.

Hmm.......I've done a number of 150 mile 10,000' days around here too. Usually the last Thursday of July.
The weather gods must have been busy because they didn't have time to take care of things around here this morning.

68 miles. Humidity was unfavorable & the busses are not paying attention to intersecting roads with crossings.

So what’s with the busses? City, school, religious? Taken out by a bus would be so rude.
