Just got back a while ago from a nice 14 mile ride down to the James River here in Richmond, VA. Very nice, very scenic, and offers a little taste of various styles of bicycling:
* Road biking
* Gentle, relaxed, hybrid/comfort riding (mainly along Riverside Dr, running parallel to the James River)
* Minor off road riding on the wooded nature trail, looping back around to the main parking lot.
* Muddy, sloppy, MTB riding on a very short 1/2 mi trail, which has wooden trestle bridges, and (especially after it rains) mud bogs, and a hairpin curve or two.

Anyway, I did 14 miles in 1 hr and 13 min. Avg speed: 11.5 mph, all on a used (but upgraded) Schwinn Alum Comp MTB!

Looked like it was going to be a very rain filled and nasty day but it turned out to be a perfect sunny day for a great 37 mile ride out to the beach.

101.6 miles in 5 hours, only 2400' of climbing. I was with a group of 7, first finishers. Tough Head and cross winds the last 35 miles. We get to do it all over again tomorrow. If the wind cooperates maybe a sub 5 hour ride.

Nice little 32km (20 mile) spin with the local bike network I have joined.

I continue to be puncture-free (touch wood) but two members of the group had punctures.

Resolution to self: practice taking off rear tire to make sure I can accomplish task without embarrassing myself!

Got in the usual 25+ miles this afternoon, unusually cool weather for our area in September.

Yesterday evening: 7 miles after replacing the chain and cassette on my 6-year-old 'bent. That's only the second time I've done that on this bike, which has 9,000+ miles, so I shouldn't be surprised that the drivetrain seems less sloppy and shifts more precisely?
This morning: 21 miles on the Screamer with my Favorite Stoker.
This evening: 8 miles before dinner.

20 mi today after changing the chain and rear pulleys (while it poured out). Drove over to the site where I work to ride in the pouring rain. As soon as I got there, the storm blew past and it was a glorious sun-shiny late afternoon with just the right temps for short sleeve and shorts, though the roads were pretty wet. Got my 100 mi in for the week.

Did 50 on the tandem today. Cool temps, frenetic drivers. Is there a correlation?

Nice 45 mile ride with my buddies Frank and Lou. Trying to get Frank back up to the mileage he was at before his prostate surgery a few months ago. Today was his longest ride since then so we did take it easy on him and rode at a fairly moderate speed and sometimes even slow speeds. He needs to get the saddle time before the Coast to Coast ride at the end of next month. All-in-all it was lots of fun and with great weather to boot.

The wind today was the strongest I've ever deliberately bicycled in for any time. I did cut my ride to 16 miles because the wind made it all just a little bit hazardous. On a fun positive note... I arrived home bone dry... but with a nice salt crust.

Very, very impressive. Even with 7 riders to maintain over 20 MPH for five hours--wow!

Also seems very tough to find 7 riders who go the same speed, or is a good part solo?

Rode to the gym (shoulders, triceps) again. Then rode down to a dollar store for some batteries (my Nikon F2's motor drive has an appetite for them), then back home before the sun set.

It was 7 riders-no solo. Interestingly the first 20 miles was only 18 mph so we had to pick up the pace the last 80 miles and in much tougher wind conditions. We all realized the value of riding as a group so everyone played very nicely on that ride.

Thanks. They say always best to go slower for first hour when doing a century. Good example why a team is better than solo for long rides, for cameraderie, safety, keeping you aware of potential problems and more.

Did all seven share pulling equally or did the stronger ones ride longer?

It was pretty much equal time on both day 1 and day 2. With the windier conditions the last third of the ride on Day 1 we all took shorter pulls. You had to do that otherwise we would have wound up dropping folks and been left with just 2-3 folks in the group. There were times on both days the stronger riders had to be asked to dial it down a little just so we could keep folks together. Fortunately no one minded and was well behaved. I would say I was the father figure in the group but Grandfather is probably a better desrciption. I had a good number of years on all of them.

Yes I did. Had a great ride up into Tallahassee. First really cool day in a long time after a long hot summer. Rode North on the Rails to Trails bike trail and over to Southwood and around the park area and did several loops through the hills (for me anyway ) back to Wakulla Co. Started about daybreak (63F) did about 45miles at 3.5 hours or so with Coffee break. Cool Weather!! Makes me remember why I love cycling (((((;

Did my regular 25 + mile route this afternoon. A cold front was moving through here and the winds came form the north as it passed. Much cooler temps and low humidity will be most welcome.
