Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Which had me fevered and miserable in the middle of the night.

WTF is wrong with this state? Took me seriously 90 minutes to get seen. What if it had been worse?
I'm disappointed. When a kitchen knife aficionado cuts themselves, I expect the knife to be so sharp and the cut to be so clean that it elicits compliments from the medical staff.

His wild boar sausage with lingonberries was to die for, especially on the grill. Before he closed he gave me a copy of a handwritten family recipe for rabbit in agrodolce. It's terrific.

His place was one of two long-time butchers in what is known as the "Italian Market" to close up shop. Big losses.

Mrs datlas tells me it’s the second one, and I expect that’s true, but first time I ever saw this.
I tested it early on.

I had literally, yes literally sharpened it that morning. It's the one I leave toothy though. And still it didn't hurt much at the time...

I ride early in the morning. When it first started getting dark in the morning I hated it, now that we set the clocks back and it’s light again, I find that I prefer the dark. In the dark my lights are that much more visible to cars, gives me a false sense of safe.

The Mennonites that introduced me to scrapple did catsup. If I ever have it again I'll probably go for hot sauce.

While I don't have a distinct memory of him doing so, I have to believe my dad used hot sauce. One odd thing he used to make were peanut butter, bacon and hot sauce sandwiches.

Since the humidity left, and most of the heat, I'm tending to go out around 2. It gets me home just as the sun is getting too low to see well (riding south, the dapple and the glare are tough). It would be better if I left a half hour earlier. Or an hour earlier.

And it seems we should be hearing stroopwaffel comments around now, no?

I LOVE Scrapple! In fact, last year when the 6 of us siblings got together at The Ancestral Home, we made sure to have one breakfast that was just scrapple and fried eggs. There are still small producers around Adams County that make it and sell in local grocers, so I picked up 2# at the Kennie's in Biglerville. Panfried crispy on the outside and still soft on the inside, with real PA maple syrup, and with eggs with runny yolks.....

Cripes, now my mouth is watering!

That's how Mom ate it, and she was a Mennonite, but she didn't start out one.

Yesterday, Mrs. GeneJockey told me that the if the snake oil salesman won, we would have to wait till he was out of office to move to PA. So, this morning she was looking at houses in Pittsburgh.

We had a really fun ride today. One of the riders rode his gravel bike, and another called him
”Gravel Guy,” which inspired me to invent a cycling super-hero. He was a humble road cyclist. People called him Fred. But he discovered dirt roads and wider tires, and a miraculous metamorphosis happened. He became GRAVEL GUY.

Think I can pitch it to DC Comics??
