Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Actually, now that I zoom and enhance, I see that there are shadows being cast from the riders and spectators further ahead, in the lit intersection.

I only had time to squeeze in an hour today and, despite a fresh download, it still needed to be updated. Then there were issues with DLing the companion app. Then there were issues getting all of the BT connections set up.

In the end, I had 45 minutes instead of the expected hour.

Had a good ride with my friends followed by Indian food for lunch with a friend (non cyclist, former colleague). Both were most excellent.

Did I miss anything while away?

Yeah. These days, if I'm zwifting after work, my routine is to turn on the TV, then launch Zwift, then get the bike/trainer/fans set up, then go change, check on Zwift and launch a world, then go fill a bottle and put on my shoes, and fetch the charger for my phone that I invariably forgot, then get on the bike and wait while the world continues to load....

Since i use a wheel-on trainer, I also warm up for 10 minutes then do a spin-down calibration before entering any event.

I went out and cruised easy for 2+ hours. I was surprised at how much the little 45 mile ride yesterday kicked my ass. Maybe it was the headwind, maybe it was riding with people on e-bikes, although they let me pull when ever I felt like it. The problem with that is I can't wear them down so later they can just switch to "turbo" mode and climb like a pro.

I changed a tube for a lady today. I saw her working on it and asked if she needed help. She was very happy for the assistance as she was considering walking home.
We talked about the local clubs and she said her husband was a double century type guy for a while. One year he did 26 doubles and then he hung up his bike and wont ride it anymore. Total burn out.

Unless it's forcing me to do an update, I'm able to start my ride within a couple minutes of waking up my Apple TV. I'll live with the sub-par graphics for the efficiency of start-up. The only issues I have are related to having a mediocre WiFi signal in my garage.

See, I get the worst of both worlds - low res AND long startup!

You're doing it wrong. In my house, I always had the best computer. You just need to man up and take your kid's away from him and give him yours.

It’s been awhile. I always plan on visiting museums in the winter but never seem to. Maybe I will this winter.

I believe they both still think I can kick their asses. Not sure if it's still true, but as long as they still think it......
