Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Our rule for travel is that it all has to fit in a carry on if we're flying. We've become exceptional packers. Last year when the wife and I traveled to Austin right before the pandemic hit in full swing we packed 8 days worth of clothes, running gear, extra shoes etc all in one carry on for each of us.

Uno! Dos! and Tre! were at least partially mixed on speakers that I sold to one of their crew. I've honestly never listened to any of those albums, so I don't know whether or not that's something to be proud of.

My two daughters (8 and 10) usually request Amon Amarth, In Flames or Between the Buried and Me in the car every morning while I drive them to their summer program. I've successfully turned them into metalheads.

Oh - here's my addiction catch-up
1 ride
awesome vacation that included a water park, a zoo, a museum in the Adirondacks, a farm tour at my in-laws that included a go through of the hay loft to look at my FIL's collection of old tools (he's got proprietary wrenches dating back to Model Ts and a whole bunch of train wrenches) and a trip to Lake Ontario that was fantastic.

Sucked to go back to work today, luckily I have another brief stretch off later in the month.

We do much the same. You should have seen the look on my wife's and daughter's faces when I told them that we were not checking luggage on our last 2-week trip to Europe.

I'm not up on current events but I know an awesome shovel when I see one.

Sorry I didn't bring it to our meet up at an undisclosed location. I'm sure you were disappointed.

Heh. My first tour was across the country Seattle to Bard Harbor, ME. Went with a small group with a leader, but the trip was unsupported. One woman brought a hair dryer and a Watchman TV. They got mailed home at the start of the third day, which was a couple of days before we crossed the North Cascades Higway.

I was actually disciplined when it came to packing "luxuries." And because there were twelve of us, we split up the group cooking gear. My "anchor" was all the medium format film camera equipment I brought, including three lenses and a power winder, which had 5 AA batteries itself. Also had a 35mm camera with one lens. Don't regret it at all, especially since I never had to walk a hill.

The Olympics would be very different if they adopted the sporting attire of ancient Greece.

Especially the WINTER Olympics.

One reason Mrs. GeneJockey LOVES her old Sienna is that it negates any need to make decisions in packing for road trips. She went to a friend's cabin for an overnight with her gal pals, and in addition to a large suitcase, also took at least 2 boxes and a big tote bag.

Will leather jackets be a required part of the uniform?

I've mostly listened to spoken words today.

The fruit I ate was fine plain--no baking required.
