Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Didn't make sense to me either. I was not asked to intervene or do anything. I just heard the stories.

I am glad I am done with renting from apartment complexes; they're all scam artists these days. It was easier for me, and in turn easier for you.

If we rent a place here, we're going to find one of the houses rented by a local family. Not a student rental house, not a property management company house, not an offshore investor house.

Had a great ride today with my Coach and some team mates. All of them are super strong. One is just naturally good at cycling, just started racing this year drops 1236 peak watts on a zone 2 ride. The other was a professional bmx racer/ olympic champion. She snaps like a whip when she sprints.

My sprint game is super weak, so I was looking forward to watching my coach and these other two work. The focus was on the bmx turned cyclist. She has an event very soon, so most of the ride I was just the trailer. During the zone 2 portions I would pull. Anyways, each sprint was me trying to chase these guys/ gals down. Everytime I felt like they would jump 20 feet on me instantly. With that being said I hit some really good power numbers and managed to get a KOM, though that was short lived. Like 2 hours short.

New 10 second power 936 watts, 5 seconds 1009.

I would think a BMX racer would have to be a good sprinter. A world class BMXer would be an awesome sprinter.

It was insane, I would watch her gear selection and try to be one smaller. I would watch her posture and I could tell when she was going to go, and I swear in one crank revolution she would get like 20 feet on me. She’s nothing but efficient. Every piece of energy she is putting out is propelling her forward. I need to learn how to do that. With that being said it was the best sprinting I have done to date.

100 years ago isn't as far back as it used to be. My dad was born in 1923. Used to be it was civil war time, and that was a looong time ago.

RMOT: My dad used to tell of a civil war vet in his home town, when he was a little kid. An old man with a white beard sitting on his porch watching the world go by.

Is this why you get up in the middle of the night? For deep ruminating?

We did Mt. Vernon to Sandpoint in 9 days fully loaded with a day off in Winthrop. Probably could have done it in 8. The passes sort of dictate how much you can do in a day unless you want to wild camp.

No, but the legs have been feeling a lot better in the mornings the last couple of days. I might go to Jim Thorpe Next weekend with the Bike Friday, assuming I can get it working. I have not ridden it in many years. Riding it would mean not having to swing my leg over a top tube.

If you have a trainer or equivalent, I would try that first before you venture onto the road. Maybe you can borrow one??

Uh oh. Daughter #2 "lost" her iPhone along the beach in Cannes. She is in full crisis mode. I tried to tell her it's not the end of the world but she is super-anxious about it.

I used to have one, but I cannot find it in my basement. I am thinking I sold it a long time ago.

Jim Thorpe would a flat trail ride. I could turn around whenever I wanted. Definitely not going to go on road for my first ride back.

Sounds like Dad needs to hop on a plane. Especially if you've never been to Cannes.
