For me, I had no inkling that Sue shared her name with a place in Italy. To the best of my knowledge there is no famous Sheila Novara in cycling. There is a Sheila Young (now Sheila Young-Ochowicz).

Were the names of any racers at all well known in the mid eighties to the general public in the US? I suspect that outside of maybe Greg LeMond or the disgraced Lance, just about any racer's name would draw blank stares from Joe average even now, but especially back when the Novara brand was launched.

I think I remember reading they were very similar to the Cannondale ST's just dressed in slightly different components.
