I don't have a pic, and already started disassembly, but I rescued (and paid $5) a Raleigh M20 MTB. Hoped it was a men's model but turned out to be women's. It had 2 badly mishshaped wheels due to auto accident. Strangely, the unsprung fork seems to be intact. I needed the cheapo crankset to go in my GT frame with equally cheapo crankset. Some URls indicated alum. frame but it has a steel frame. Saddle came off the frame while trying to load in the car. Good tires and tunes for reuse. May play with the frame to build a chopper or recumbent.

Yesterday evening I was checking my local dumpsters and I saw a bicycle wheel sticking out of one. On closer inspection there turned out to be several bikes down there. I must have spent an hour pulling bikes, throwing pieces of lumber and plumbing fixtures &c out of the way, and so on. Rode home rolling one bike alongside my commuter bike; went back with the car later and filled it; and went back for one more with my bike because it was too filthy --dripping with spilled paint-- to go into the car.

Off the top of my head:
Early 70's Schwinn (Chicago) Super Sport, lady's model, complete but somewhat rusty.
Late 80's Nishiki, lady's model with lugged frame, I don't know the model, front wheel missing, rear wheel trashed.
Early 70's three speed (Shimano 333), complete but covered with spray paint so uncertain of brand.
Early 80's Schwinn MTB-like bicycle, low end.
Mid 70's (?) Schwinn (Japan?) World Sport (?), looked pretty good but I couldn't get it out from under all the other stuff. I took the rear derailleur (Suntour Honor).
The rest, as far as I can recall, were low end MTB's, mostly 90's, from Schwinn (I left one, may have taken one), Trek, Iron Horse, Roadmaster (I left it), Next (I left it), and I don't remember what else.

Why did I take them? You have to ask? Well, honestly, I don't know. I just can't help myself, I guess.

What would you do with a 1972 Super Sport, lady's frame?

Awsome find, where are these dumpsters. I live in CNJ and my town has a couple of days in a year to haul large items like bikes. People make round in trucks on the night before to salvage stuff like bikes. I don't believe tows have a recycling center/dump any longer but I may be absolutely wrong.

A few bikes I picked up over the weekend. The Trek 400 I've already swapped out my saddle and pedals and took it for spin this afternoon. All I really did so far was air up the tires.....rides nice, maybe a keeper.

Also bought a pair of Specialized HardRocks, the one not pictured is a size smaller with a rack but otherwise identical. A nice Gary Fisher, pedals are seized. And a Schwinn Mirada that needs some love.

Also bought a Schwinn Caliente (womans) for $2.....not pictured, needs tires and some lube. Paint is a bit faded but in decent mechanical codition.

ak08820, I don't know about dumpsters, but I did very well on bulk-garbage dropoff day. Do you have that in Edison? By the way, I used to live in Edison, where I assume you live based on your username.

I got the 2 HardRocks, GF and the Caliente at a townwide garage sale. HardRocks were $20 a piece and $40 for the Fisher.

The Mirada was $5 at a garage sale I stopped at on my way home from an MTB ride. The paint is in surprisingly nice shape compared to the rest of the bike.

The Trek I tried to make a trade on a couple weeks ago at a bike swap. I got a phone number and went and bought it outright. After I bought it he tried to buy my traders.

I also found about 6 Schwinn's/Ross's with cupped BBs and freewheeling chairings this past weekend. I passed on those, as I have a basement full right now.

Picked up a bike from the trash yesterday -- Fuji Espree. Suntour ratcheting down tube shifters, tires hold air and I took it for a short ride around the block and it is pretty nice. Some rust on the top tube. Pictures later this week.

This is the best free bike I have found in 2 plus years of flipping.

Found this sweet cannondale on craigslist for my mom, $180. Shifts great and everything, just maybe a new saddle and its good to go. The paint is really interesting, it seems like one color in some lights, but in others it looks like a metalic purple to blue fade, very subtle though.

A friend gave me a 70-76, (by the decals and headbadge) Peugeot AE-8 Variant in my size. Think it might be a Euro market model due to the black headlugs.

My Connondale H300 is a cool metallic forest green and has less than 50 miles on it. The owner had painted something in his garage at some point, so the entire bike had a thin dusting of white paint on it. All it took was detailing the bike with acetone and the beautiful original paint job came to life. I have been riding it for the past few days and love it, but my Dahon Jetstream is still my main ride. I plan to post it on CL soon and at least double my money.

I just joined the forum, primarily because of this bike, a Bianchi Axis approxiamte vntage 1990-95.
I have posted all info on the Bianchi SN thread. I think it is all original and it s cleaning up very well.
I did not take pictures before I began disassembly (darn!).

I got a great deal, the bike was abandoned in our building. We did a cleanout of the bike room and it was left. I think it used to belong to a guy who sold and left a lot of junk in the basement and his unit. It was sitting so long the tires came off in bits. Mine now!

I am going to clena it up, lube moving parts, replace tires and put it on the road. Will do more after I ride it a while. Will post pictures when it goes back together.

So I just picked up a nice 76' Raleigh Grand Prix in great condition for $40.00

I keep telling myself I will flip them, but I never do. I just dutifully clean them up and line them up. When I die... there is going to be one happy person who finds the body.

Let the Traveler go last night after WAY to much time cleaning it up. Happy buyer that will have a Trek 712 that is to small for sale very soon.

Bought 4 steel lugged bikes this morning for $25. Two Schwinn Sprints, a Caliente and a Varsity. All 54cm and smaller. Frames all look pretty good paint wise..........the hipsters are gonna love these!

Here is the Fuji Espree that I snagged from the trash on Monday. I wiped it down and installed new tires. The rear brake caliper needs the oxidation removed to get it to work right. The top tube has a bit of rust.

I have an identical Espree, same size too, with small specs of rust as well. I turned it to a single speed and use it as my daily grinder bike. I love it.
