My youngest wants to join the Star Track velodrome team as soon as they'll let him. My oldest, 10yo daughter is on it and currently uses a raleigh rx24 road/cross bike though her favorite ride is a flat bar converted pink Giant Cabriolet from 1983 or 84 which is what she rode this and last week, while my 8yo is on a white with red accent diamondback podium 24. The youngest, first pic in Massapequa the second in Cedar Creek is on a 16" Harry Havnoonian, he's getting practice in handling it so we can head to the track in the spring. We did 2.5 miles there yesterday, he made it to the top of the first bridge, the wind was too strong for him to cross, and then he rode back down without crashing so really doing well.
Just finished the felt this week for my daughter, converted from 650c to 26", 140mm crank set, narrow bars. I'm watching a set of mango r45 chris king hubs for it, if they stay below 400 I'll splurge but only cause the bike will go through 2 if not 3 kids and the hubs can then be transferred to another bike. But it would look sweet and be faster then the cheap wheels I tossed on there.
I think I'm the only parent I know who's kids have a fleet of bikes each but we ride 3-4x a week. In the last 2 weeks we rode stillwell, bethpage, trailview, cedar creek, massapequa and the long beach boardwalk. During the summer they do the velodrome and the 8yo does BMX at Shoreham, the youngest wants to join him this summer if it opens up.

It was you.
Just be careful encouraging your son to race...
At 18, he bought a P2 after working a summer at Sunrise Tri.

Croton is on my list to ride with them. It's good to have kids that ride and can handle a bike. They spend enough time with electronics like all kids today, they need a constant reminder of what the outdoors are as well

He's a BEAST and when I ride with him, I have to remind him to take it easy on the old man and not do too many hills. And Connecticut is not as flat as Long Island.

we did 11.5mi along the beltway today @ 10.2mph but good winds and braking on the downhill slowed us. First ride so not surprised she was braking.

My son won the Westbury Sprint Triatalon outright.... he was 17.
Bob Cook then invited him to join the Runner's Edge team. Soon after Jose Lopez then sponsored him for free coaching by LITC.
He ran at Nationals @ 21.
It really was a awesome experience taking him all over the northeast for races.

Anyone know of a shop on the east to center of the island that will cut and thread spokes? I've got 100s of spokes but not the size I need for a new set of wheels for my wife and I'd like to use some of what I have.

Spoke Thread Tools
I highly suggest buying the tool and doing it yourself.

Although I have given the idea of buying the tool a thought for the times I need one off spokes, the idea of cutting and threading 64 spokes with those tools is ridiculous. I've used them a number of times, once to do half a wheel and it just isn't worth the effort past a couple of one offs. Unfortunately the good ones are more like 3k and I haven't quite the need for one of those.

Nice. I tried hitting the trail in Brooklyn yesterday but there was still a lot of snow covering from the plows clearing the expressway and i had to give up. Hoping to get in 25 miles tomorrow before church but I need to have this thesis chapter finished by noon and turned in so time is a bit of a crunch.

I was thinking of heading to Jones but the path was icy, wet and some snow so i stayed on the streets that were clear. You just have to be careful making turns as some intersections still have ice in the corners.

First ride in a while, due to work, weather, various other impediments and this sore presumably cracked rib. Had my chance this evening so hell, let it hurt. I affixed the old but still working MagicShine and headed to Bethpage, rode up to the Tower Loop, explored the new trail additions there. A bit muddy in the usual spots on the way up. Would love to repeat tomorrow morning with the other kids, but, work.

Can’t spot anything, Joe. Deer ?
I’m also beat up from a fall up here on B17 2 weeks ago. Ribs can be very painful when you land on them. Going to try a road ride in an hour, maybe it’ll warm up to 40. Good 2 weeks to have an injury, is my thought, the riding conditions road and woods have sucked.

I'm still not entirely clear on how the trails were changed.......I did B17 and at first I was was certain it was the original route as it goes through the familiar stand of white birch, but then it gets new to my eyes.

The vertical white streak in the middle is the doe's tail. To the left up against the light-barked tree is the head, with nose hidden but eye and ear evident.

They added Tremble and Shake as well as B17 this past year. I like both. B17 somewhat parallels the main trail, there’s not much increase in mileage if you do it.

I haven't seen any whitetail south of Manetto preserve yet. Next time there's a dusting I'll keep eyes open for tracks.

I saw a deer just north of Haypath Rd. early this fall. Another CLIMB member reported seeing one in BP this fall as well.

Any parking recommendations for battery park to ride the Riverside Park with the kids? We've never done it but it seems like a good potential. Otherwise we might hit the aquarium and ride the boardwalk. Trying to talk the wife into fatbikes so we can cruise the beaches this time of year but she's being sensible.

I reset the odometer to zero and started the new year today. I took my usual break at the 15th Tee of Bethpage Black and decided to take the paved service road into the part to see where it goes. I figured since there was no golf and not one working i'd be OK. Wound up at the polo field and then mace it onto the parking lot roadway.
