Easy 36 with a friend recovering from knee surgery. He was laid low by a grandchild's toy on Christmas Eve, & today was only his 3rd ride. He did fine. It pays to be in good shape.
Riding with him again tomorrow, and the Mrs is off! I think I'll wear the red tandem tomorrow.....

Road to Rocky Point along the north shore and too the "easy" way home. 92 miles @ 15.1mph... i'm tired.

I also have a petition for the addition of "(Bicycles) May Use Full Lane" signs on major intersections in the Town of North Hempstead. These signs are an easy way to make riding a bicycle a more safe and comfortable idea, as it tells drivers to keep an eye out for bicycles.

Sunday, just about perfect weather. A nice group of about 10, kept the speed in the sedate high teens so we could BS. 43 miles to Crab Meadow Beach in Northport, where there is a very nice pavilion in which to take a mid-ride break, especially once the hot weather comes. A kindly employee opened up the restrooms when asked by the lovely ladies present on the ride.

We were pulling out of the lot when you were pulling in, with a long string of riders behind you. I'm surprised we didn't see your group on the road; we went past Ft. Salonga to Kings Park, which was 48. What a beautiful morning.

Did a B+ ride with MBC to Bayville - Mill Neck and back. It was more of a A ride with 18+mph flats, lots of hills and his 35mph on Wheatly road heading to 25A.
It was brutal.
40 miles @ 16.2mph, 1800' and 1600c.
Gonna take a shower and a nap.

Glad to see the Man in Red spent his first day of retirement properly.
I headed to the local hardware place for paint rollers, like I promised, but I did it via Caumsett St. Park
A bit of meandering made it a 53 mile trip to the store.
Multiflora rose is blooming in quantity along the Bethpage MUP. I know it's an invasive but it smells so nice......

Just did a fast 15 miles... too nice to stay inside.
So riding north on the Bethpage MUP I saw a cyclist go down where the path crosses at the "circle". The was a large amount of sand that collected where the path crosses the road. The sand washes down the road running to the club house and was over an inch thick.
So I decided to do something about it. When I got home I changed into street cloths and put a shovel and broom in the car and headed back. It was actually about an inch and a half thick where the pavement changes from part to road.
It's much safer now.

I'm proud to say I did this once as well. I drove back to clean and sweep up glass from broken beer bottles as left by high school kids that would party at the north end of the bike BP path just after it comes down from crossing the Southern State.
Would drive me nuts to always have to ride through all that. I believe the local residents complained finally and the NCPD put a stop to the parties.

We waited out this mornings unpromising skies, and set out from the South Shore at 11am, headed for the North. We had a very nice tandem tandem lunch in Cold Spring Harbor, but, passed on the rolfing. 36 miles for us, about 40 for our friends. Very heavy traffic for a Saturday, but still a "Good Ride Today".

Quick Question
On Father's Day morning I will be in Huntington and I am thinking of riding from the village to Caumset Park. A friend told me that the road is quite narrow on the north end and he would go directly to the park. I would prefer to ride there. Are the roads biking friendly?

There's probably not a day, during good weather, that someone is not on the road to Caumset.
If you're comfortable riding on roads, you'll be fine.

29 yesterday and 28 today, commutes to and from work in Brooklyn (leaving car at work).
Really nice weather to bike in, 55 degrees this morning in June !.
They finished the Rockaway Beach Boardwalk this winter, 6 miles of wonderful concrete surface, no more clickity clacky wood !.
It's remarkable in 20 years of bike commuting, the stuff that NYC has done to improve conditions for cycling. About 14 miles of my ride is on bike lanes, bike paths or a Boardwalk with dedicated and marked bike lanes all in NYC and zero of that in Nassau.
Oh, and as note, encountered 2 cars this morning driving down the bike path on the east side of lower Flatbush. Just folks lost it seemed like, one following the other and moving at a clip, they drove like they owned the path and expected me to move out of the way (no choice). Then shortly after a guy on a motor scooter on the path waiting to cross Flatbush. He headed down the path to Knapp St. at a pretty good clip as well. The wild, wild east sometimes.

It's hard to go wrong in the Caumsett area, which is a favored destination for local club rides. A bit of history, too.
As you near Caumsett on Lloyd Harbor Rd., you will pass the Joseph Lloyd house on your left, once the property of the Lloyd family, major landholders of the area. The house was occupied by British troops during the Revolution. It was also a place of residence for a Lloyd family slave named Jupiter Hammon, who became the first African-American writer to have his work published.
If you decide to log some more miles on the very pleasant Lloyd Harbor Rd, taking it to the end brings you to Target Rock Nat. Wildlife Refuge. A 15 minute or so walk brings you to the shore, with a view across Huntington Bay to the Eaton's Neck Lighthouse. On the shore is the eponymous target rock, a big boulder reputedly used as a practice gunnery target by the Royal Navy during the Revolution.
On a more prosaic note, there is a house/compound on the north side of Lloyd Hbr Rd, just past the "causeway" with water on both sides, at the spot where the road bends to the east. The compound is behind a sort-of peach-colored wall, and supposedly used to belong to singer Billy Joel.

KJ, Thank you for the added information. While I went to H.S in South Huntington that was over 40 yrs ago and I live and cycle mostly on the south shore or The Bethpage Bike Path. A change of scenery would be nice. Enjoy the weekend.
