Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cripes, this season of the year is just too much. Mostly too much food. Yesterday we had a Holiday Lunch with our SVP, who came out to bid farewell to the second tranche of laid off employees, so we had a big spread of Thai food. Then he took us 3 senior managers out to dinner, where I was a Very Bad Boy. Appetizer, salad, entree, AND dessert, along with an Old Fashioned and 1 1/2 IPAs. Uff.

I'mma have to ride a WHOLE LOT to burn THAT off.

You have to click a stupid "continue reading".

Takeaway is the more exercise, the better. Each bin of more exercise (their highest of which was 300 minutes/ week...) had less hospitalization and less death than the one below it.

My power lifting son’s MRIs show a full tendon rupture of the left quad and a partial rupture on the right quad. See surgeon next week. The docs are really dragging this out considering the pain that he’s in.

Are they doing anything for his pain? Is he mobile (as mobile as one can be - crutches, walker, etc)?

I can't even imagine. I was upset waiting half a day with my hip. Did they at least give him pain meds to get through? Seems like he ought to have been rushed in and worked on that day.

I’m disgusted with the system. Our local orthopedics are generally capable but this whole mess has been handled poorly. Seriously, I’m at a loss for words.

Sounds like tonight’s dinner celebrating my youngest graduating with his masters tomorrow - appetizers, salad, steak, sides, and dessert. Probably start with an Old Fashioned and then get a bottle of wine.

Will be making a liposuction appointment after the new year.

Regarding Annual Strava Stats, Strava says that I’m in the top 2% of users. Either the rest of you guys are slacking off or their statistics suck.

Well, I'm top 5%, so what does that tell you? You're 98th percentile and I'm 95th.

It does sound appalling. Our son who tore the tendon off the tibia was in surgery within 48 hours of event. For my femur I was in the OR inside of 24 hours.

Hopefully the repairs can be done, and I hope they are doing the full pain management protocol.

It makes me angry that law enforcement is running pain management in much of the US.

I just checked out my Strava recap to see what it was all about. Top 6%. Phooey... though I was off the bike much of the last 6 weeks or so (I'm down about 1500 miles from last year). Strava was kind enough to point out that I had a 22mph ride, though.

That sucks. They may have reasons for wanting the situation to cool off before intervening, but they certainly owe guys you an explanation and some empathy.

Back in my youth, I was taught that severed nerves and tendons are not an emergency and when found in a wound just to clean things up and refer to the appropriate clinic in the morning.

How do I find my Strava percentage? I am guessing I need a premium membership to get that?
