Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I think.... I think that I have overcome my irrational desire to replace upgrade my wheelset. The free shipping from LightBicycle was bad enough, but the crescendo hit yesterday after one of my credit cards offered me a new card with a "get $200 back with $500 worth of purchases within the first 90 days" offer. Wheelsets are always more awesomer when they're $200 cheaper.

....but now that I mention it, it's there at the back of my mind, again, nagging away.

Good work. The first step is always to realize you have a problem.

What is a cheap industrious wheelset? Campy or Shimano freehub? 9, 10, or 11?

Nothing in particular really. I’m just in the handwringing stage. Shimano, 11. I do have 6600 Ultegra hubs laced to xr300 rims and need to research if I can reuse the hubs with 11 speed cassettes, but xr300s might be too narrow for 25mm tires.

Good news! Delta has extended its change fee waiver for flights through the end of September. Previously, it only applied to flights through May. Now I can push back my planned June Montana/Idaho tour.

I was just curious. I like wheels but being too fat for this sport, I shy away from fragile stuff. When you mentioned "industrious," I got curious.

It allows me to chat a bit with people I never see anymore. One of the road clubs I ride with posts their rides there and after rides the members post pictures and discuss things. There are two mtb clubs I ride with and FB is my only communication with them.

The political discussions can quickly devolve into name calling, etc. I have had good ones, though, when the other person or group will present their point, offer evidence to back it up, and accept my posts without insulting or "you are all the same" type of reply. These can be very interesting because they make me expand on my statements and find supporting links/documents. I don't think I know everything and I encourage others to prove me wrong, or themselves right.

Sometimes it's too easy and I'll get into it with an idiot, so I leave it. Or the other person starts with the insults, so I'm out. I try to never insult my opponent and just present my case.

+1 I've broken nearly every rear wheel I've ever used except the ones currently on my bikes. My Seven is on it's 3rd different set of wheels after 6 failures with the previous 2 sets. My Gunnar is on it's 3rd (at least) rear wheel. Both mountain bikes have had rear wheels replaced. This has been a constant since I started riding road bikes in the 80s.

I’ve given up on schools reopening this academic year, but getting concerned it may not even open come September.

Brutal. When I was working hawks would chase pigeons. Saw a falcon sitting on a dumpster eating a pigeon.
