Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I really should. Too bad I have a pesky job. Some day.

BTW a bunch of my friends are currently on a cycling holiday in Provence and they went up Vontoux a few days ago. From their Strava pics it looks like a fantastic place to ride.

Another day beautifying the earth.

I had a somewhat rare woodpecker sighting. One with a red head was messing around at these posts to a shed.

Shortly thereafter I mentioned it to a guy I know who's a birdwatcher, trying to get some cred. I said, "there's a red-headed woodpecker messing around over there."

He (from 50 yards away) says, "Oh a pileated woodpecker."

So much for my birding cred.

Quiet afternoon. Everyone must be packing up their old offices to move to new offices.

They're pretty distinctive. We have a pair living nearby.

I don't think there's much to be learned from something being lost or broken, unless it was a consequence of careless behaviour. And I'm not assuming Daughter #2 was to blame.
