All that said, we must be aware that well over half(3/4? More, likely) of the drivers in the state are first generation drivers. And a pigeon could pass the official license test.

My son is on a Zoom meeting for math class. One of the other kids has a smoke alarm with a dead battery; it only took me 3 or 4 chirps to realize that it wasn't one of mine.

I bet you'd be fine, maybe a bit of a tendency to flare high
I was actually shocked at how well things went, I had about a 10kt crosswind on the asphalt takeoff and didn't get too far off the centerline. Thankfully the landing was straight in to the wind on the grass. I had a bit of an incomplete flare so I skipped a little bit but no real drama. The highlight of the day was being really high on final and throwing the thing in to a massive side slip - very thankful I still remembered how to do that

When I flew the dash 8 I always wanted to do that. Slip it to the numbers, mainly because it flew like one big 172. Only issue, the tail would have torqued the fuselage and I would have been the star of Why airplanes crash.

Off topic, but this terrain is just startling to me. With great difficulty I'm trying to think of anywhere near me that's anywhere near this flat.

My dad was a bomber pilot and, while in occupied Germany with nothing to do, he hopped into a Piper Cub that was sitting on the runway. His only problem, he said, was the landing. In the bomber you cut power and you are down. Not so in the Piper.

My plan was to ride the 25 mile round trip to Motul, to get nails, after the electrician left. He's gone now, but rain. Yesterday's forecast was for no rain for the coming week. Surely it will end by the first of Dec.

Is that common for airplanes with a tube style fuselage to have a slip prohibition or just specific to the dash 8?

It was a J/105 in a big OD fleet on the Chesapeake. Skipper is a good guy and and we were well supplied with everything.
I got sick of buoy racing a few years ago, along with a lot of other people it seems. A big part of what turned me off was the drinking. These days, I do the occasional distance race on our boat and a Bermuda race with friends every now and then.

It has an extremely large tail, put the drag force on the tail would cause things to bend that arnt suppose to bend. 145 is the same way, and as far as I know all US carriers land crosswinds by kicking the rudder in the flare.
