Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My wife was very excited about the butterfly exhibit. She has always wanted to go to one, but it's never been open when she's gone to the MN Zoo or Como Zoo.

I was in the land of the bears during my epic ride. No bear sightings. Or any other large critters. They were probably snoozing in the shade.

Googling the birds on this list tells me that it is not accurate to what I saw.

Our resident juvenile lady eagle is back (Fundy coast, New Brunswick); still with Mom it would seem. She is a big girl.

I am going to try to get some decent pics with new camera (no discussion on that topic, please!). If/when, will report further.

I see this quite a bit with couples cycling. The most successful couples cycling is the product of the woman have equal or more priority than the man.

I'm sure you know your specific situation best, but sometimes there's nuance at play that results in important differences. She already starts behind you as far as aerobic capacity and then has worse equipment and it somehow never seems fun for her. With the implication then being she is less motivated and won't ride the bike anyway. Just worth mulling over how true that actually is. Maybe less true than you think. Maybe not.
Yep. My wife gets the best of everything, best tires, clothing, etc. She rides with the guys, so I make sure she gets every advantage. When I was racing, it was the other way around but she rides better than I do now so I figure she's earned it.

Try it in Wisconsin. In the rural areas of the state, I approach every 4-way stop with trepidation and worry. Rules of the road seem to be unrecognized by motorists for cyclists. SE Wisconsin and close to Madison is sane but many rural areas away from tourism can be sketchy. My experiences only.

Btw, I'm headed for the Point in a couple weeks. I've ridden around there many times and will be on my toes at all times.

Well, Wisconsin does have a minimum BAC requirement of all drivers.

This reminds me - there are a lot of park lands along the river between Mpls and St Paul and the last two times that I've ridden by a particular area, there have been multiple 'Goats at Work' signs on the fence and at least a few dozen goats resting in the shade on the other side of the fence. Eating weeds must be hard work judging by all of the sleeping that they do.
