Nice day out today. I am supposed to ride every Sun with my buddy but I had to miss last Sun cause of home work and today he couldn't make it. So I rode 26 in 60 something temps alone
. I felt good til last 2 miles.
I rode my 8 speed '88 Dura Ace equipped Carbon Ironman.

I just stuffed a kids bike in the back of my car....now I'm trying to figure out how I'm bringing my actual kids to school tomorrow because I had to fold down the back seat. I won the bike in a raffle about six months ago and by the time spring rolled around I never removed the tags so we're donating it to the school library with the caveat that if my kids' names get drawn, they choose another child because I do not want it back. One down. Then I have a package to send and that will free up space so my husband can no longer complain that I'm over my bike quota. I'll have two empty spots in my bike rack...

Did 30 miles Sunday on the Ironman, first time I've had it outdoors in a month or so. Needed a solo true recovery ride after a hard ride Saturday shooting for some new Strava PRs. Got 'em in a couple of segments, but an asthma attack wiped me out after about 10-15 miles so I was much slower on the return trip. Lotta pollen and allergy provoking stuff in the air and nothing helped -- antihistamines or inhaler.
A couple of local roadie clubs do recovery rides on the weekend, but their "recovery" pace is my tempo pace. They're mostly younger, some racers, and while I can keep up it's more of a workout than recovery. Even if the ride leader tries to keep it at a moderate pace there are always few guys who practice attacks and breakaways so the whole group gets strung out for miles along rural highways. Sorta defeats the whole idea of the group ride as safety in numbers. Probably annoys the drivers too because they have to pass the scattered group many times rather than once. So I join those only once or twice a month for a workout ride. I do my own recovery rides.
Mostly been riding the Trekenstein outdoors, with the Ironman on the trainer for intervals, warmups and cooldowns. But I'm trying to match the fit of the two bikes as closely as possible so the transition is easier between the two.
My neck and shoulder have improved quite a bit this year so I lowered the Ironman handlebar about 1/2" and realized I could go lower and still be comfortable. Might even go back to the original stem, especially if I put the Scott aero bar back on. Ditto the Trekenstein. I put a 90mm stem on it a few months ago but now I could handle something a little longer. With both bikes I can see the front hub over the bar when I'm in the drops. Usually no problem but occasionally both feel a little twitchy on fast curves with rippled pavement or sharp dips with rough seams at speed.
And I'm still trying to settle on a standard crankset for both -- chainrings and crank arm length. I may swap the two and see how each feels with the other's cranks and chainrings. Of the two the Ironman feels more natural with 172.5 crank arms and 50/39 chainrings, so I may try that on the Trekenstein.
The Ironman sure is comfy on these rough rural roads. Nearly as fast as the Trekenstein too, even on climbs. Feels like the Ironman drivertrain is slicker, less drag. Can't quite put my finger on it. Anyway, just a pleasure to ride.
One or two more rides and I'll have over 6,000 miles for the year. That's about double 2018 when I was mostly recovering from injury and illness. Not a bad year, 2019.
Checking Ironman's saddle and handlebar before ride after lowering the stem 1/2". Should have left the iPhone home. I'm still using a 2012 era Wahoo sensor pack and awkward ANT+ module that glitches. It failed to pick up the speed, cadence and heart rate monitors, so it was deadweight. Fortunately my Android phone recorded the basic GPS stuff.

Drift Ghost X action cam. I'm usually too busy during workout rides to remember to snap pix. So I'll take screenshots from the videos.
I've run video nearly every ride for 3-4 years... except for that one day in May 2018 when a car hit me. Since then I never ride without a camera. If I'd been running video that day my insurance claim would have been a slam dunk. As it is I'm still waiting for resolution.
The Drift is the best value I've found in an action cam, and I've tried several costing under $100.
The Ion Speed Pro was okay for 3-4 years but recently the battery doesn't last long. It was 90 minutes at first, now it's under an hour. And the dynamic range and digital noise was pretty bad at night. Good tactile and audio feedback when it's turned on/off, so even on a helmet mount I didn't need to check it. No display or wifi and I had to transfer videos to the PC later.
The VanTop Moment 4 knockoff of a GoPro is okay as an action cam but not really a traffic documentation cam for long rides. Terrible mounts too. Battery runs about 90-120 minutes and two are included. But it's a hassle to swap batteries mid-ride. And there's no feedback to confirm it's running. It does include wifi to check on the phone.
The Drift Ghost X runs 5 hours on the included battery and there's an optional 8-hour battery for around $25. In DVR mode it runs indefinitely on any memory card, rewriting over the earlier videos. A 32 GB card usually lasts two or three rides before it begins to overwrite the earlier videos. So I have time to copy videos to my PC if anything interesting happens. No display but it has the best wifi and app I've used so it's easy to check on the phone. I used that feature a couple of months ago to show a school district bus manager how a schoolbus nearly hit me near the bus barn. Bus came all the way over to my lane on an "S" curve that was more than wide enough to accommodate two oncoming buses. Just sloppy driving, not deliberate. I told the supervisor I didn't want the driver to lose his/her job, but to be careful because a lot of cyclists and joggers use that same road.
Usually I mount the camera on the handlebar or stem but I have only one bike mount and it's on the Trekenstein. So on the other bikes I clip the camera into my POC helmet. It's already a gigantic melonhead of a helmet so the camera doesn't add much. POC makes safe helmets but they look goofy, like wearing mushrooms.

Speaking of which, I rode Sunday with my riding buddy. He's the one I sold a 52cm '88 Ironman Master to. I had upgraded it to 9 speed ultegra with Brifters. Anyways, I was really trying to make a comparison to my 52cm '89 Ironman Master. It turns out my master is actually a little bit bigger in the head tube area even though it's a 52cm. I can only guess geometry change/difference. Eventually I'll ride his while he rides mine for a ride comparison. Although we're basically the same height his seatpost is WAY lower than mine.
Also, today a high of 70 today and high of 71 tomorrow. Supposed to Ride with him tommorow.
