Is there a regulation on Strava that dictates you’re only allowed to register activities of a minimum distance or intensity? One of my brothers recently had an activity of about 5-feet. It was the result of inadvertently ended it unintentionally. He realized it and started a new one before he set out. But he never deleted the old 5-foot one. Like others have indicated...there are some people on Strava who are merely trying accumulate as much mileage/distance/activity as they can...because they’re in a competition with friends and/or family, or one of the numerous clubs/challenges that Strava has. I do that myself with friends as just a friendly challenge among us. Although our criteria for “an activity” is somewhat more defined, and must be longer.

Someone mentioned recording mowing their lawn as an activity. I’ve done that (and then deleted it). What was more interesting was my dog. I have about an acre to mow, with a bit of elevation, and use a riding mower. But, my dog loves to “help” me, and runs point for me the whole time. So once I strapped my phone to his collar while I mowed. His track was crazy.

This ^^^ reminds me of putting my Garmin in a fannie pack fashioned into a collar for my dog for trip to the dog park. I compared the dogs distance to my distance walking.

I was 1.28 miles and the dog was over 2.07 miles and I'm sure it under-reported with all his quick turns back on his path.

Is there an "assembled IKEA furniture" option on Strava?

If your dog has his own cell phone, he's old enough to mow the yard.

Someone suggested me creating an account on Strava .... but I am just old school and pretty much out of the all the social media stuff.
I normally would inspect the routes I want to go on gugu maps and have a mileage that I keep on my offline excel sheet

You don't need to treat it like social media - you don't need to follow anyone and you don't need to let anyone follow you. You can just use it to keep track of your stats, routes, etc.

People use tracking aps to track stuff. Why do you care what someone else tracks? Maybe they're just trying to track enough minutes to meet one of the challenges and get 10% off a kit or some such.

A Zwift ride by someone I follow is just as real as an outdoor ride. It only really exists on my computer screen in either case.

A morning woods ride is a great start to the fresh day.

I just think it odd that someone would actually use a site that posts their whereabouts at a certain time.

Those same people probably are listing half their weight on Zwift.

This. I find very little "social media" in Strava. It's mostly a training log, and also some motivation because I know others can see my training log and therefore are passing judgement on how much/little I'm riding.

Why? It's not like it's live updating. It uploads a ride later after you're done, and can be set to hide the start/end points.

It's not really any different than tagging locations on Instagram or Facebook posts.

Who'd ever post personal activities. Next, people will upload pictures of what it is that they are doing & checking in each time they're nearby others sharing similar interests.
won't be long before the algorithm suggests people you might know, so you can connect with the same interests.

Anyone else follow Strava Wankers on Instagram? That account is basically a compendium of stupid strava entries.

When I began using Strava it propelled me into riding more. I found it amazing to see the miles add up over time - and each milestone I hit provided me with another goal to move towards. I have 1 follower and he's the only person that I follow. We're old Army buddies (tank crewmen) that encourage each other to keep moving. In the old days I used a spreadsheet to log my running miles and my workouts. It was the same as Strava is for my biking today - to give me feedback and encouragement by seeing my progress - but Strava is much more accurate and automated than a spreadsheet!

I've found Strava useful. I don't follow anybody. Don't care who follows me or doesn't.

But I like to have a visual mapping of some of my rides/hikes etc. And the Flyby's sometimes show you routes and other scenic points you didn't know existed. As a kid I liked to look at maps and daydream. I'm still a kid. Just older.

I used to use FlyBys for this, as well - it was great and I found some nice new route ideas. But that all got shot to **** with the change in default settings, prolly 'cause people got too creepy stalky and Strava had to cover their butts. I used to have dozens of FlyBys on any given ride, but it's not uncommon to have fewer than five, now, even on longer rides.

Long story short, we need more people that aren't concerned about stalking (you can still set multiple privacy zones around your home[s]) to turn their FlyBys back on.

I switched my Strava Flyby back on after the dust-up last year. Funny enough, my recent rides show nobody else riding ... maybe it has something to do with the temp never getting above 0F over the last week or so. 🤷‍♂️

Nahhhh, that can't be it!

I've been hiding inside during this stretch - I hope to get outside next Tues or Wed. Being cooped up has me longing for, uh, long, warm rides. After reviewing my 2020 rides, I finally have a couple goals for the year: more metric centuries than in 2020 and I'd still like to get in a Mpls to Duluth ride.
