Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Btw, I'm headed for the Point in a couple weeks. I've ridden around there many times and will be on my toes at all times.

Luckily being in SE WI, I'm in the sane area....although I do originate from the city in which made the national news of: Police subdue naked man, accidentally light him on fire.

I'm still not sure if I am relieved or disappointed it wasn't a relative or acquaintance.

Back to biking, in all honesty I don't have too many problems with cars here, other than it seems that the 3 foot rule is totally not known. However that I suspect is common throughout the US.

I used to live near Saginaw MI. Now that place scared me...drivers would intentionally buzz me, drive next to me and start yelling, and do other intentional harassment - seemingly on ~every third ride or so.

BTW, what are you calling the "Point"...Stevens? Door County?...other

I know you jest somewhat but,

For someone from TN, possibly better (cooler) weather during our 2-week summer and less hills depending where you ride. My kudos still goes out to those of you who bike anywhere near or south of the Mason-Dixon line. Been a while since I have been in TN, but the Smokey's and other Appalachian areas are going to better scenery on the whole.

We do have some fairly good biking areas, north is wooded with inland lakes. The Door County Peninsula region has good areas for biking along the Lake. Most areas have some hills, but nothing too extreme. Road network is pretty good although the quality is questionable of late - Outside Magazine a few years back stated the good biking road network originates back for when the dairies needed good access to the farms for milk shipment.

As for Trsnrtr biking up here. I suspect he is just joining with seemingly half of Illinois that comes up here every weekend in summer.

Yes, SE Wisconsin is pretty bike friendly with a lot of great riding. As for the Point, I was referring to Stevens Point. The area east SP is great cycling as long as you are wary of drivers.

Rural Wisconsin defines the term, Supper Club.

My wife and I took our tandem to SW Wisconsin for a week several years ago and that area is rural in a hillbilly sort of way but the roads are great to ride on. This was the area around Veroqua. I've heard that SW Wisconsin is the poorest per capita for the state.

They deserve each other, for so many reasons, but mainly because they both suck.

As promised. Sorry for the delay, it's been a busy day. We had a fantastic ride. Avoided all the fresh chipseal. It was very hot and humid, so the Halo was used with great success. I would post pics but all you would see is the stupid speedometer.

Apparently I was so disgusted by the contract talks that I couldn't even spell his name right more than once.

That is one of my old jerseys. I outgrew it and she grew in to it and it was only 4 years ago.

It's a jersey from the Scottish cycling podcast called, The Velocast." I highly recommend it. Velocast Productions | Audio entertainment on pro-cycling.
