No. I do all my cycling solo but on foot nobody has ever beaten me on a 100m sprint I guess cycling uses much different muscle groups than sprinting on foot.

Lol! I'm quite far from that, I can barely do sub 11 sec 100m sprints.

I forgot to ask -- are we allowed the normal 5 mph allowance for Internet speed claims?

Good grief, you people are fast!

I'm at maybe 24mph, at the most. Downhill I seem to be faster than a lot of people, but on the flats? Not. Even. Close.

Strava tells me I hit 36 mph on my steel Colnago (53/13 top gear). I seriously doubt that was for more than a second or two, though, and my legs were pretty much shot after that. Under more normal conditions I would consider upper 20's very fast.

Holy crap, if I hit anywhere near that cadence I'd bounce myself off the bike!

Well yesterday while trying to work out a stiff sore lower back I kicked the old Trek 560 up from 17.1 mph to an even 30 mph over a one minute 33 second period. Guess on a good day, without a jacked up back, I could do more if I stood up and got after it.

My solo 38.6 MPH was laser measured by a cop pulling over cars next to the bike trail - In all likelihood it would have been flagged in competition for being past the acceptable levels of "wind aided".

My top speed is about 29 mph for road bikes, 25mph for mountain bikes, and folding is about 24mph. But down hill over 48.8 mph on a loaded touring bike.

...and THAT'S why a smooth pedal stroke is important. The efficiency gained is not from 'pulling' on the upstroke, it's from not lifting your whole body up with every revolution.

I've won p/1/2 races with a 30 mph sprint.

Think I lost some cat 3/4 races with a 36 mph sprint.

18 million different factors come into play, one of the least of which is what max speed you hit.

At the end of the day, you only have to go fast enough to get your tire a few mms ahead of the person beside you.
