Second day off--TSS is ~0 as of today. Intervals after work tomorrow. No bike commuting to work until I see what happens this weekend.

1 hour in TT position on the trainer today and I did not sit up one time. Hardest workout of the year even though I did not get over 180 watts.

Hi,

Well I'm not as scientific as all of you young guys, but I'm feeling better than I probably have ever felt in February and I've already done five races this year and felt strong enough to try a few breaks.

Heart rate vs. perceived effort is good so far too. Mileage, while not in pcad territory, is pretty good for me for this time of year.

Of course I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop to disrupt what looks to be a decent season.

Man, I hate tapering for a race. Just hate it to death. It makes me realize how much I define my cycling by my suffering. I'll make everyone pay for this week's lack of suffering at Pace Bend on Sunday. I'm going to drope it. Drope it hard.

LT/V02 test today. Up 45W on LT, V02 is up 5 ml/kg/min.

Didn't know you could raise the 2nd one! I'm stoked!

That is a FLAT TT. It looks at though it was done on a track or some other surface...a motor speedway? no turnaround but maybe you passed two guys? Anyhow, nice job. 370 watts is a 4.46 w/kg? Ouch. One side of that equation is fantastic.

Tested VO2 max will increase for a while. A portion of this increase is your VO2max actually rising, the rest is your ability to actually reach the classic VO2max O2 uptake plateau. A lot of people reach fatigue while their O2 uptake is still rising...

I never did get the results of Pace Bend. What happened, or can you point me to the right thread?

Hey man, it's only February. plenty of time for him to drop 10 pounds [and gain 10-20 watts].

awwww, that hurts my feelings yea, i'm 6'4" @ 183 and i'd say 9ish%bf with naturally wide shoulders and torso. this is only my second year of "real" training/racing/riding a bike, and i raced last year at 193, so i'm seeing more gains in the watts battle than the kg battle at this time. gotta work with what you're given sometimes.

My training last night involved jumping around and trying to stay standing.

Was a great concert though. I guess standing for 4 hours counts for something.

after a few days of riding home into stiff headwinds on the track bike i'm feeling pretty fatigued. we have some snow on the way today (supposedly) but the wind has died a bit so i should get some relief. i will probably be riding geared for the commute on friday as we're supposedly due for freezing rain/sleet again. bleh.

Sorry, I did not mean to insult you terribly! 370 watts is a great number. I know a number of state champions (and an almost national champion) who cannot get anywhere near that number. You should be proud of the accomplishment.

I was just surprised to see that such a great wattage only put you in the 4.5w/kg range. Again, that is still great, but just surprising for such a large raw number of watts.

The true test however is how you would do on the road. While nice, the computrainer is still not SRM level of quality, and while I believe CdA can now be entered, you indicated that it was not. A lot of TTing is not W/kg (especially on a flat course) but W/CdA.

Again, congrats on your accomplishment, I would love to see it in an aero position outside with an SRM, but regardless, you did very well.

oh no insult taken whatsoever DWJ, hah, it's all good! you speak the truth that i am a larger person and i too would be interested to get an outdoors aero position measurement considering my large sail frontal area.

Did a nice short mock-race with two training partners today. I wanted about 10 minutes of intensity to open up the legs a bit without getting too much stress for Sunday's race. Super hilly course (most of Barton Creek blvd, going north).

For the fast portion of the ride:
Code:
    Duration: 11:30
    Work: 241 kJ
    TSS: 27.6 (intensity factor 1.199)
    Norm Power: 403
    VI: 1.15
    Pw:HR: -10.69%
    Pa:HR: 22.54%
    Distance: 4.622 mi
        Min Max Avg
    Power: 0 1006 350 watts
    Heart Rate: 137 188 176 bpm
    Cadence: 52 141 91 rpm
    Speed: 7.9 43.2 24.1 mph
    Pace 1:23 7:36 2:29 min/mi
    Hub Torque: 0 494 120 lb-in
    Crank Torque: 0 1164 350 lb-in
Oh, and I won with a long dig up the final 17% grade hill (600W for a minute)

This was good for my confidence at Pace Bend.

I did six last night, and nearly died. First time I've trained above L4 this year.

I went out on a 3 hour ride yesterday to start the transition from the indoor trainer to the road. It was an interesting ride. My RPE was all over the map, my back brake caliper was rubing on the rear wheel (I didn't find out until afterward; I think this was the cause for the higher than normal RPE), and I was covered head to toe in mud. Fun stuff. Today, 2.5 hours in zone 2/3. Beautiful weather, the roads were dry. An hour of SST planned on the trainer tonight. Tomorrow, 20min x 3 climbing with 5min RI followed by some zone 2 work to round it out to 3 hours.

Edit: I noticed in the cooler temps (3C, 37F), it takes quite a bit longer to warm up. It took 45mins before I felt comfortable. I can't wait for warmer temps (above 15C).
