Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hi,
I have no idea how to reduce the size of my images to post on this forum. Each time I try, I'm advised it's too big. Can someone please give me some direction how to create a thumbnail image or alternatively post the image directly on the thread?
Regards,
Steve.

Im sure there are other ways, but you can upload and host your images at Photobucket.com/ for free. Then you can link to your images through the image address that will be supplied by photobucket for each of your photos. (using photbucket is also a handy alternative to paying ebay to host your photos )

This is my bike. The frame is a 2004 ORBEA Mitis 2 + Carbon. I purchased the frame earlier this year (2005) here in Japan, and used most of the componants from my old 1996 GIANT CFR1. I love the ride but must admit, the GIANT CFR1 was equally as good. The Spinergy's are left over from my old race days before the UCI banned one piece carbon wheels from mass start races.

Sorry the pictures are so big.

Beautiful bicycle.
Weren't you worried that it might topple over into the water when you were setting up for the picture?

Those are aux/secondary levers. They allow for braking from the tops. Many cyclocrossers use them and they can also be found on some of the newer crop of road-comfort bikes such as the Specialized Sequoia. They run inline with the primary brake levers. Several companies make them including Empella, IRD, Paul Components, Specialized, Tektro, Cane Creek, Salsa and SRP.

I often do riding in traffic and footpaths over here (Japan) and I'm trying these out to see if they are of any benefit when I'm on the top of the bars. I noticed them on a few bikes in my LBS here and thought I'd give them a try. It was a little difficult to break the habit of grabbing the normal levers, but now I'm used to them.
On the subject of brakes (I asked this quest. on another thread but didn't seem to get a response) what is the normal set up for levers and wheels? For example my right lever controls my front brake, but my LBS mechanic here asked me if I wanted it changed, as he says his American customers prefer the left lever to control the front. Is this correct?

I don't know if it is, necessarily preferred, but every roadie I have owned has been set up this way.

up to you, I lot of cyclocross riders that I know make the right brake lever the front brake because it makes it easy to dismount from the bike so they do the same thing on their road bike since they're already used to it.
