No damage, thankfully. What size tires can you fit on a Birdy?

With mudguard, up to 50x355. Its the factory tire size of the Birdy Rohloff.

Without, there is the Vee Tire Co Crown Gem 54x355 MTB tire.

And the bike has a full front+rear suspension.

I use my Birdy very often in such kind of forest trails.

I did a search for the Schwalbe Marathon 365 20x2.4" and I can't find them. All I see is 20x2.15". Do you have a link for the 2.4's?

If you are looking for wide 20"/ETRTO406 tires, there are the new excellent Continental eContact Plus in 2.5x20"/62x406. They are much better than the Schwalbe Super Moto X.

What didn't you like about the Schwalbe Super Moto-X that the Continental improves upon? The Super Moto-X have been good on road, on gravel, and in the mud so far.

They are relatively puncture sensitive. More than the (now discontinued) Schwalbe Big Apple Plus and Big Ben Plus that unfortunately have a maximum width of 55x406.

They are also relatively fragile, they do not like rocky trails.

I also tried the Schwalbe Pick-up (they exists in 60x406 and recently in 65x406) and had also punctures (with the 60x406).

Nice bike! That is one serious set up you did on your bike. Do you do long distance riding or touring on your Link D8? If so, how do you like it?

So far, rides up to 80km including some gravel and some shorter camping trips, as well as rides around town. It works out fine for me once I dialled in the handlebar position right. The upgrades to the gearing are covered elsewhere on the forum but give me a bottom gear of about 20”, which gets me up the local hills.



Loaded up, it looks like this. A pair of smaller panniers are on the way for more capacity and luggage options.

• MKS Allways Ezy Superior pedals;
• Blackburn Grid 1 rear rack; and
• Tern luggage truss and front rack.

The rest is stock Tern Link D8.

I think that 20 gear inch low is the magic number for hill capability. I got there on my 20" Dahon with a double crank, didn't think a mega-range 1X would fit, though have seen recently on here it can. I'll consider for my other folders.
