Random Thought Thread, aka The RTT (**possible spoilers**)
Making a kilometer blurry
I had one. Hydrostatic. Overrated. It was fine, but nothing special. Also was not durable/reliable.
I have a Toro Personal Pace now, and its self-propelled action is flawless. It's a really simple but brilliant drive design that always goes exactly as fast as you're walking. It mulches just as well as the 2x as expensive Honda did, and starts easier even though it's 5 years old. After the winter break: one pull.

I have a n-gear jump stop, but I still managed to drop my chain on the inside last weekend (I think my derailleur hanger is bent and I need to re-align). Chain landed on my jump stop rather than the BB, so there were less scratches, but it still came off. Maybe I don't have it set up quite right, or maybe it wasn't made to handle the drop from the 42 to a 30 on my triple (yup, I'm a weakling with a triple and had just shifted in to the granny gear of shame).
On the black bike I can't use the n-gear so I don't use anything. I have a k-edge but when you really need it to hold it doesn't. Therefore I don't use the small ring. A two-bolt catcher thing would work but I haven't gotten around to getting one. One bolt, too much leverage when you drop your chain under high pressure (think shifting into the small ring on a climb).

My friend is in France and I've been living vicariously through him via Strava and Instagram. Great pics today, unfortunately he blew up before summiting Mt Ventoux.

If it landed on the jump stop isn't the n-gear jump stop too low? I use a jump stop on the red bike and have the derailleur limit screw crazy loose. It'd shift the chain off the small ring every time if I didn't have the jump stop. The chain basically lands on the tilted part of the n-gear, drops down the vertical part, and onto the chainring.

long range forecast is calling for rain easter weekend, so now thinking again about racing in winston-salem on Friday and the sunny side of that front. be a pain in the ass to drag race stuff down in addition to all my other stuff, but to race in a town where they don't know your name is a perk.
promoter hasn't been particularly helpful in identifying where the course actually is though. It seems to be enshrouded in mystery and unclickable links. He actually sent me a couple of blank jpegs to help me find. Any insight? Maybe they don't want Jersey taking their prize money.

But from what I know of Winston-Salem, expect fairly narrow streets, i.e. basic two-lane roads, and lots of up and down, probably fairly steep up and down too.
My idea of fun

I find the A and B to be more manageable.

Depends on their expiration date...
There are also various brands with Duracell and Energizer being the best.
The lower quality such a Ray-o-Vac have that immediate impressive power but it fades quickly and you draw on them a little more...

I know approximately where the course is on Saturday, but I am at a loss for Friday's course. The link provided on the race flyer just shows a straight line, not the 1.5 mile four-corner crit as described.
But from what I know of Winston-Salem, expect fairly narrow streets, i.e. basic two-lane roads, and lots of up and down, probably fairly steep up and down too.

I think it's eluding to the idea that the higher cat guys think it's impossible for the lower cat guys to know anything, and that they're all crashy as hell (queue Tour crash > segue into the denying of physics).

Hell, I'm from 1 city over & I can't figure it out. Looks like the Start/Finish for Friday will be near Main & 5th Streets. What that means for parking I have no idea.
