I also prefer to race in the drops. For many of the reasons CDR noted, but also / mainly because I can better absorb bumps / jostles / elbows if I'm in the drops. Second reason being aerodynamics / drafting, third but still important being cornering.
I'm perfectly happy if errybody else continues to ride on their brake levers... more opportunity for me.

That's happened up here a few times lately. There really is no wiggle room for promoters these days. Sponsorship is getting scarce so race fees are making up a bigger piece of the payout. Everyone has their threshold, and some cannot take the risk.
So what about Chesco? Is it going to happen this year?

is it normal for a latex tubular to go down to 60-90 psi the day after, and go completely flaccid after a few days??

I still remember my senior prom night, the things I did to my 16 year old girlfriend that night make me never want to have daughters.

Other than last minute hair anxiety beforehand, it went well & she had fun. I was a bit worried she'd want to leave early.

I made it!
We drove a little bit but there was only 2 miles of road open. The rest was 'closed' although past the gate it was paved. Since it was closed for cars I took my bike out and went for a ride. I was a little nervous riding on an empty road that either had a park ranger waiting to ticket me, or no one to pick up my corpse. I was even more nervous when I saw what appeared to be fresh bear tracks on my return trip (I did not see them on the way out). The only positive that would have came from a bear encounter would be a 41 mph sprint and a 5s wattage pr!
Unfortunately, I missed some vistas due to the snow pack. Regardless, it was a great experience.
The snow pack was pretty big (30'?) in some areas and at times I worried about avalanches. Growing up on the California coast I have no concept of them, I just knew if I shifted or coughed at the wrong time everything may come down on me!

maritime snowpacks are the safest, and we're deep into spring so melt-freeze cycles usually make things bomber.

I've been pretty sick/exhausted for 2+ weeks now (3rd weekend+ for Junior being sick) and it's hard for me to think beyond a stream of consciousness kind of thought process, but I want to get 2015 in order.

Tour of the Catskills has historically been a 3-day stage race (TT, RR, RR). For 2014 it started out the same way. Then the promoter announced it would be a 2-day stage race (hill climb, RR, RR), then a 1-day RR, and today he announced it's now it's a 3-day omnium (TT, RR, crit).

omnium is probably the best way to go for the most people. I'd never do it as a stage race. Now I might consider the RR and will likely do the crit.

Somewhere I have a picture of my ex-wife at Crater Lake with her helmet on and a cigarette in her hand. We did a loaded tour around Oregon in 1992. It rained every day but I had a great time, she did not.
Today I rode most of the ToC stage with my club, 85 miles and 7000+ feet of up. I actually dropped some riders who normally do it to me, it must have been the 100 degree heat. Office workers aren't aclimated like dumbasses who work outside.

I originally posted this question in the Old Folks' Home, but figured I'd get a wider set of experiences here: What part(s) of your fitness go(es) away after time off the bike...in my case, six weeks?

vO2 goes first. Threshold goes next, and sprint/pop strength goes last, iirc.
Definitely vO2 goes first. I was sick for 4 days and when we got to about 90 seconds of an effort I was gassed way earlier than usual.

Your jump (peak power) never really goes away, it's just a matter of if you can jump because you're so gassed from riding a mile or two. You're going to get some number in the range, unlike 5 or 10 minute power.
Guys that haven't raced in 10 years, who just got on the bike, if they're not already out of breath they'll be able to do a good jump. A now-former teammate and I went for a ride, he hadn't raced in 10-ish years, he just started riding again, and he walloped me in the first 25 meters of a rolling (2-3 mph) jump. I passed him at 50 meters but he absolutely killed it in the first few pedal strokes. Same gears, same type of equipment. We could both shift while sprinting - he's the one that first did the right side bar end shifter and I learned about that from him - we both used lower gears for our jump, etc.
I've lasted less than 2 minutes in races when not fit so apparently for me everything over 2 minutes goes away quickly.

I suppose. The drama continues. Neurologist is sending her for an MRI to see what's going on with her back, legs & feet.
