If you are asking about the red raleigh 8 speed, a catalogue suggests 1977; they are suntour drop-outs

My 77? also has forged Suntour dropouts. My favorite year for the SC: 700c wheels, forged dropouts, Suntour cyclone + barcons...what more could you ask for? The perfect sport/light touring bike right off the shelf. I love mine.

The frame looks identical to my '80 (hmm, maybe it was actually an '81) with the exception of the TDF sticker.

Here's my "new" '74 Mixte. It's almost too nice to ride...but I'll get over that. I want to show it off to a few people . Everything is original.

Apart from a SC, you are not going to find too many beautiful, Reynolds 531, DT shifter-equipped mixtes. Yours is all of that, and appears to be in great condition. Congrats!

I'm going to sneak in the back door here... Yeah, it's a Raleigh Super Course, but it's a Raleigh USA version from 1983. I recently got this from BF member Brockd15 in exchange for my '87 Schwinn Prelude (I'm a bit taller than he is and after the switch we both have bikes that fit us well). It is in really good shape. Without further adieu...

It came with a Suntour aR derailleur, a replacement for the original aRX which had a broken spring. I happened to have a Suntour aRX laying around (from my old Nishiki Olympic 12), so I put it on there.

So now, I think, the bike is pretty much original except for the seat.

Do you have any problems seeing photobucket pics? They show up fine for me and I'm not up to my bandwidth limit or anything.

I have the same frame (down to color and size, though minus the aftermarket bottle cage brazeons). You can look up the serial number online. Mine came out as a '78.

finally got around to taking a pic of this super course mixte. I found it in the late 90's with smashed back wheel, lying on top a heap of junk in a parking lot. I dont recall what made me think it was worth grabbing as I knew little about bikes then. but I brought it home put a new rear wheel on it and gave it to my mom. maybe I thought she'd like the knobby tires. It has sat in her basement ever since.

I need to figure out what to do with it. Maybe save it for the wife when we have room for another bike. It has (iirc) suntour vgx rd, huret fd, nervar cranks-made me think to take a picture, suntour barcons, normandy hub in front, blumers (sp?) fenders and a plescher rack.

i will try to get better pictures next time.

hi folks,
i'm new here. just a few weeks ago i've bought a super course mk II for about 120 euros. everything on it is original just the brooks saddle is missing. the paint and the chrome is nearly in perfect condition. if i look at the serial number it looks like a 80's model. chrome ends in the rear and front. coffee metallic paint with a silver/greyish headtube. until when did they build the super course mk II??? and what stands MK II for? i will post some pictures later this week.

Super Course MkII was available for only two model years, 1974-75. What's the serial # under the bottom bracket of yours?

I suppose MkII represented the second version as the previous was pretty much the same from the late '60s until 1973. Here are some catalog images:

This 1974 Super Course came from the consignment rack at a local bike shop. If I recall correctly, I put new wheels and tires on it, but other than that it's original. As of April 2011, it has about 350 miles (of mine!) on it.

hey neal,
thanks for the fast reply. well thats the thing.. the serial number says something like W then the forthnight of june was it H? and then a ZERO 0.. maybe i looked not good enough and its a six.. the thing is that only the headtube is in a different colour.. the rest is brownish/redish thing.. i think they called it "coffee" looks nearly 100% like the one from 1976... i hope to make some photos these days..

Early 70s 26tpi Super Course owners, can you see the bearings in the lower head set cup from below when it's all put together?

I didn't take a photo when I took it apart, but it seems there is a gap between the race and the cup where you can spy the bearings. I looked at an early 70s Dawes and it was similar... not particularly "sealed".

I might get it back together this week and was wondering if I'm missing a part, or should get something to close it up.
