To one up Shimano’s inner cable fraying in the shifter body, You can trim the housings and my campy outers aren’t frayed fwiw.

Happy for you but In the brief time I was a design engineer I used a trick from Buddhism to assess a design. The approach is to view the design as if you are viewing it for the first time in your life. When I do this to this Ultegra it is unpleasant to my old eyes.

I've been a design engineer for 30+ years now.

If it functions well...could care less what it looks like. I don't prop my bike up against the wall and look at it, or take pictures of it and send it to friends and family. Nor do I look at the parts when I'm riding it...might lead to a crash if I did.
