I can understand why some C&V folks develop the "Everything after single pivot brakes and 5 speed freewheels is unnecessary!", because on my ride today, I was marveling at just how well the Cannondale works with 1994 technology. The brakes work great, the shifter clicks and I'm in the next gear, the bike handles well, etc. But does this mean I'd give up the disk brakes, STIs, CF frame, and 11-34 11 speed cassette from the Canyon? **** NO!!

The numbers went away a while ago, but until recently-ish the more famous ones were kept around in the names of the forums. Road Cycling is the 41, yes, and Racing is the 33. They've done away with even that, though, so it's a beautiful mystery for anyone newer than that.

I'll quasi-date myself and say when I first went to college I had a Smith-Corona I used for papers. But it was a smart typewriter with memory and a little screen. So you could enter/edit short papers before printing them out.

They were available, but the Cannondale did not come equipped with them. When I rebuilt it, I chose not to use them. That, and buying STIs that old is a crap shoot.

They were pretty new in Mol Bio. when I started out, but quickly became essential. A few months before I started at Genentech, the guy I worked for was doing sequence alignments by pulling strips of paper with the sequenced on past each other, looking for a match. By the time I started, some smart guy in what would later be called IT had developed a program to do it in seconds.

My memory is that there was a room with computers, and some kind of class offered (not sure if it was a proper computer class or some kind of "keyboarding"). At any rate, it wasn't a required course and for whatever reason I didn't take it.
