Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The only one I have that small is the rectangular Hammy that was my dad’s. The small ones just don’t feel right to me.

Currently wearing my made in LA (assembled at least) hand winder.

Not me. I would be happy if I didn't have to go to a doctor for the next ten years, but alas.

It's a good thing, smaller watches are easier to hide -

I had not heard of Weiss, and that they appear to be manufacturing in the US. Last I knew, only RGM were making movements in America. Before that, you have to go back to 1969, for the last Hamilton movements out of Lancaster, or a few years earlier for the last of Elgin's.

Yep, I’m a snob.
I prefer tepid. And instant. Talk about quick. I just went all in and bought 1.2kg from Costco. Yes, I too am a snob.

I had a lite dinner of rice smothered in vegetable soup. And a handful of Hershey's kisses for dessert. I'm feeling fully back to normal now, except for no appetite. No biggie there. I've barely left the hammock for two days.

Having become bored with Autobiography of a Yogi, I've picked up 'Arctic Dreams' by Barry Lopez. A friend gave me a hardbound copy of 'Horizon' a couple years ago. Ir was a life-changing read. This one promises the same.

A group from the LA chapter of Major Taylor Cycling was meeting near here today and one of the clubs I ride with was joining them. I went along, despite predicted winds of 35 mph. They had 3 routes scheduled with the longest one about 50 miles. About 35 riders altogether and it was chilly but not windy for several miles. Once out of town the headwind was ridiculous and people started turning back. The fastest guys were ahead when some people I know said "enough". This was on a section where I can usually spin a pretty big gear but today I was in the small ring so I turned back, too.

We went into the hills and did a bit of climbing before returning to the start area to drink coffee and chat for a while. I hope the Major Taylor club comes back on a better day. It was fun while it lasted and it's good to meet new riders and talk bike stuff.

I am Indy tonight right next to the stadium. The game hasn’t even started and the hotel is crazy. Have the early flight too, should be interesting.

The Boss just sold his publishing rights for $500 million. This follows Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Sting and others in the past year or so.

That's not interesting to me. What is interesting is what this means for the music I like. These buyers are going to try to make their investment payoff and I think to do that this music is going to marketed so it becomes a major player in radio, streaming etc. This might spur new artists who make music in the classic rock style. Hopefully soon popular music might be interesting to me again.

You want four drop bar bikes? Or are you keeping the Cervelo to make it five? Way too much overlap for me, though I suppose that you intend to race the Emonda and CX?

People say that, but when bands actually embrace the styles of bygone eras, they just get slammed as derivative and "a poor man's xyz." See: Greta van Fleet.

What can you fit on the Cervelo? Max for CX is something like 33mm, isn't it? If you can fit that on the Cervelo, and still have room for mud, why not get your feet wet with that before buying a new bike?

For that matter, why not try a race, or at least some face-melting group rides, on the Madone before shelling out on the Emonda?
