Beautiful ride today with perfect 61 degree weather. Did my usual 18 mile course with my wife. This weather won't last so I'll enjoy it while it last.

Why yes I did! 16 miles south on the Badger trail. The high point being the sighting of a couple of indigo buntings which are strikingly beautiful birds.

Headed out for a 20 mile "recovery" ride after riding hard for the past 3 days. After a few miles I noticed my average speed was up, so I "pushed". At the turn around I took a short break for a gel and some water. I noticed my average speed was still high. So I pushed all the way home and finished 19.5 miles @ 17.1mph.

Best solo ride average speed.

I need to do more "recovery" rides

Nice afternoon for a ride on the MUP. Saw a red tailed hawk!

A very nice 52 mile ride this morning with a couple of over 65 year old riders. Not a very fast ride, but a very enjoyable one.

18 miles again. Nice and cool out. Unreal weather for NC in mid May. Might ride up to Corolla tomorrow. Need a long ride to cap off the week.

Of course, I biked to work today with a slightly longer route than usual -> 25 miles. First time I've ridden to work 4 times in a week in many years.

35 miles near Lexington, up and down the local ridges and valleys. It's amazing the great riding you can do here and never really be more than 5 or 10 miles away from town.

40 mi. @ 19.5 mph avg. Out early this morning, crashed on a wood planked train trestle over the river. We have had more rain than sun lately making the planks slick as ice. A little right side road rash as a souvenir.

Nine miles in light sprinkles late this afternoon. Rained most of the day - so bad that qualifications at the Speedway were rained out.

After my century yesterday, I went for an easy recovery ride this morning on the Grand Rounds MUP trails. They say that when our training rides are supposed to be hard we usually don't ride hard enough and when they are supposed to be easy we don't make them easy enough, but this was truly easy. My legs felt tired and I just made sure not to challenge them, taking even easy hills very slowly. Result? average HR was 99 BPM (that's a sub Z1 ride! My Z1 begins at 114 BPM. Is there such a thing as taking it TOO easy on a recovery ride?) and I did the 22 miles at 13.8 MPH.

To think that before I started riding, 6 years ago, my resting HR was 85-90 BPM.

No. Weekends are really about the only time I get a chance to ride but this one was a wash. Work was a little too extreme last week and I really required a lot of physical and mental downtime in order to retain my sanity.

The first bicycle rides I can remember, apart from going up and down the sidewalk of my street, were weekend rides in Prospect Park. I must have been 7 or so, because we moved out of Brooklyn just as I turned 8. I had a Schwinn Stingray and I can remember being taught to zigzag up the hills to make them easier.

On sunday, I did the Storming of Thunder Ridge Century ride in Lynchburg, VA. 101 miles, 9.8K of climbing.

https://www.strava.com/activities/306722722

I was way in over my head for this ride. I almost passed out when I stopped, and on the ride home. All last evening I was sick and shaky for hours afterwards. I don't think I was dehydrated, but I was way overextended. This was the first hot and humid ride of the season for me, and I was really feeling it.

Jim, it's nice to know you're human and realizing you're not 26 anymore

It's been raining in Reno/Sparks the past week (actual rain, not just sprinkles). A semi-rare occurrence since the average rainfall is 9.6 inches. But the mornings have been clear. I figured the group ride today would be short since rain is predicted for this afternoon so I took the trike. It ended up being a 19.5 mile trip with the usual stop at Starbucks. That's why it's called the Kiwanis Coffee Riders. Nice ride with good people (all over 60) and now I have Schwartzenegger legs.
