Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Another public bathroom pic from LA. This is in Santa Monica along the beach. Cycling content is obvious.

Is it bicycle-friendly? Don't want to leave the rig outside where it can be stolen.

This is Addiction, we don’t need no stinking cycling content.

There goes Vol, posting internet pics again. At least he managed to grab a pic of an actual Addict, this time. Not sure who took that pic of my legs, though.

So we're on a ferry and the gas-burning SUV next to us is running the engine, windows up, AC cranking. I talk them and I'm like, "so, your engine is throwing off a bunch of heat and, between that and the exhaust, it's making it pretty miserable over here."

They immediately get defensive, "well we have a baby, it's hot, yadda, yadda." It's worth noting that it's 75⁰ and overcast

"Yeah, I've got kids too, and it'd be nice if we could have the windows open and cool down, etc."

So the guy cuts the engine, but comes over to me a couple minutes later and says, "so, that wasn't cool the way you went about that, you could have just asked me to turn off the car. I didn't even know that there was a problem."

"That's why I explained that there was a problem."

"But should have just asked me to turn it off."

"And then I would have had to explain why I was asking - I was getting that out of the way first."

"That's not cool."

"So A then B is okay, but B then A isn't?"

"Yeah."

******g entitled *******s.

Oh and took the top spot back. Probably no more 300-mile weeks now that I'm trying to get back to running.

Probably.

It's that time of year again, when the constant onshore winds become less constant and even occasionally we get offshore winds in varying strengths. You know, Smoke Season. I have just completed negotiations with Mrs. GeneJockey for a permanent clear space in the garage for the trainer and accompanying table for Zwifting.

This time of year, you have to play it by ear, or more accurately, play it by Purple Air. Had to postpone the C&V ride this morning, because it was >100 AQI over the whole route. Ah, well. At least we're able to ride pretty much all year, and not have to worry about snow.

Same except we have fresh, clean air and I don't ride since I'm a former cyclist.

I'll watch for sure. Hey, they still have a better record than the D-backs

We have 4 networks that could potentially be playing baseball. TWO of them are playing soccer games right now.

I miss the good ol' days when you tuned in to one of the Spanish language networks for soccer.

Well I guess it's still a little early even for east coast games, but still...

I've been by area high school when they've had football practice going and there are parents who wait in their vehicles with the motor running.
