In cooler weather, you can really tell that the slot to let air through does its job. If you know what I mean!

Well, the deal went down like it was supposed to. I sold the Kaitai back to the original owner, and picked up my new bike this morning.

Here it is straight from the LBS. Swapped the headlight, computer, and air pump from the old bike to this one. Upgrades are coming. When I get them on, I post up the pics.

At this point I'm happy as can be. Every short ride I have taken starting last evening, and several today have made me like it a little more. Took it for about a 30 min ride this morning before I pulled the trigger. Wound up changing the stem for a 25deg to make it fit my old bones a little better.

I think it looks pretty cool! I think that maybe with thin tires they would do good. and I bet they are quite light!

Thanks!

I actually like the tire width, so I will just have to pony up some $$ for a pair of SKS Longboard fenders.

I've been steadily transforming my daily commuter into a touring rig and have changed quite a few items from the last time I posted a pic here.

Here's a pic from today's practice ride with around 18 lbs of weight in the pannier.

Changes done....
  • new wheels (Mavic A719 rims with DT-Champ 2.0 spokes and D3N20 dynohub, Deore LX rear hub)
  • trekking handlebars (thanks again fietsbob!)
  • shorter gearing for hills under load
  • B&M CyoT IQ front light and stock Spanninga rear light running off the dynohub

...also ordering new rear panniers and front handlebar bag within the new few days and off I go on weekend+ credit card tours!

Great photo Telly! Your bike looks like it's pretty well equipped already, but the handlebar bag will be a great addition.

I got this on Feb 14th. My first new bike in over a decade and my first road bike ever. I've finally added everything I want to it:

Nothing like a bicycle as your Valentines date.

IMO items such as the Rohloff shouldn't be bought used (unless you know the previous owner) since the cost of repairing one is too high to risk.

That looks nice! I like the green and brown color combination.
How long is the stem?
