Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

To answer your question; no I do not have an awesome lawn mower. I have a p.o.s. Honda.

Went out on the mountain bike with my friend George this am on the Old Ridge Route. He wanted to just ride 3 hours, so we went out for 90 minutes then turned around, which covered maybe 75% of the road. I’ve posted about this one before, it’s an abandoned road that used to be the main highway from LA to Bakersfield. Some of it (in the populated areas) is normal paved road, some of it is gone. But the part up in the mountains is still there, sort-of maintained for fire and natural disaster purposes, in case emergency vehicles need to get through the Tejon Pass if the 5 freeway gets shut down.

Anyway, it’s a cool place to ride. Rarely do you encounter any other humanity (today we actually saw three people).

Thirty miles, 3000 ft climbing, beautiful terrain, awesome company, perfect weather, lively but not crushing pace. In short, a very fine morning.

Striking how my pic is golden, @Trsnrtr pic is green, @LesterOfPuppets pic is white.

Yep, it’s an 80 volt, 22”, self-propelled Kobalt. I mow a leg-breaking, lung-busting, 7,500 SF lawn and that’s before you take out the house, driveway, sidewalk, deck, and porch. So, maybe 3,500 x 4,000 SF.

Thanks, but she's trashing the whole idea.

Hmmm, I wonder if she would mind a small car battery on her rear bike rack.

You mean it's possible for a human being to survive an hour without drinking anything? Amazing.

I am so glad I did not do that. I think I drank 6 bottles during today’s 4 hour ride and STILL cramped up at the end. Then had to mow the lawn in the 95 degree sun.

Hot.

ps is the end near?

We had two young-uns on today’s ride, collegiate racers home from college. One from RPI and one from Bucknell. They were both strong riders but respected the overall vibe and pace of the ride.
