Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Strange things happen every day. You never know when you might encounter a rabid otter.

The otter got the rabies from another rabid animal. Maybe even from an ankle biting type dog.

If it were feasible for me to become a mountain bike vagabond, I’d do so.

I’ve posted about this one before, it’s an abandoned road that used to be the main highway from LA to Bakersfield. Some of it (in the populated areas) is normal paved road, some of it is gone. But the part up in the mountains is still there, sort-of maintained for fire and natural disaster purposes, in case emergency vehicles need to get through the Tejon Pass if the 5 freeway gets shut down.

Anyway, it’s a cool place to ride. Rarely do you encounter any other humanity (today we actually saw three people).

Thirty miles, 3000 ft climbing, beautiful terrain, awesome company, perfect weather, lively but not crushing pace. In short, a very fine morning.

Striking how my pic is golden, @Trsnrtr pic is green, @LesterOfPuppets pic is white.

Great weather for it, too.

Nice pic.

Ninety-five degrees really isn't hot for a sun.

Just sayin'.

Apart from the zoo/aquarium, I don't recall encountering any otters.

Just because you can survive it doesn't mean your body is happy about it. You're not 25 anymore.

When I was 10-16 years, we used to head into the gravel roads in the foothills for hours in summer without water. It never occurred to us.

Yes, we all did such stuff, that's why God protects babies and utes . . . at least until their brain is fully developed. But after a while he gets tired of protecting adventurers.
